Not true. Of course a bump cap will not provide the level of protection of a hard-hat, but it does provide some. I doubt you'll be gloating to your wife that the thing saved your life, which it likely won't, but it will liekly prevent soft tissue injuries and stop those types of hits that hurt like **** but do little damage. Not a waste of money at all. Using your reasoning you wouldn't recommend someone where gloves while chipping and other activities because they won't save your life. A cut head is no less troublesome than a cut hand.
