Finished mine up a week or 2 ago, nice kit Chris, everything went smoothly.

Before even trying it out, I started immediately on my 'man lift' cage.

Nice job on both, Willl. I'm also enjoying using my Chris Perry forks, they are light, strong, and most of all they are so compact I can take them apart easily and store them out of the way in the shop. After seeing that man lift you built, one of those is now #2 on my shop project list, right after getting the Greens Machine bucket thumb I just ordered installed.

It's too dark to see in the photo.. did you put rectangular tubing under there to capture the forks, or channel?

About the only thing I might try to do different is come up with a way to have the rails remove or fold up so I can store this thing on edge in the shop when it's not being used. I'm constantly long on stuff and short on space around here.

Absolutely awsome! I need one of those to get at dead limbs up high and will plan it soon. Very, Very useful and nice work! It looks like you used 1/2" rod uptop, and not tube?
Again, nice work.

Steve

Actually, it's 1/2" black iron water pipe. Stronger than I thought it would be.

Most of this steel came from my scrap pile. Just the fork tubes and 1 stick of 1.5X1.5X.125 angle was store bought.

I'm concerned about the corner angle iron welded on the lower edge to the top of the lower tube frame. For strength, I would suggest that the angle iron corners should over lap the corners, so that welds are at 5 points. Also would add another set of horizontal "pipe" supports half-way between the upper "pipe" and bottom frame, also for more structural support. I will probably also add a safety harness, "just in case."
Regards,
Steve

Nice job Willl.....I just wish my scrap metal pile would support building one of these.....I would be all over it.

My barber told me he uses one of the square plastic tanks w/metal cage that has the top cut out for a "man lift".

For strength
Honestly, had all kinds of visions of adding cross bracing and maybe even little gussets at the upright bottoms.
But this turned out way stiffer and stronger feeling then I expected it to.

Hi Everyone. Will, your lift is Awesome! I can't get enough of seeing what folks are doing with these forks.

If you don't mind me making just one small suggestion, I'd sleep a little better if there were some strapping running around the perimeter of the cage about 6-12" up from the floor. A taught chain bolted on would suffice. If by some chance you happened to lose your footing and slip, it'll help keep you from falling right out. Personally, I'd probably add another course another foot or so higher than the first one too.

Alternatively, you could consider some electromagnetic boots!
