Rest in Peace
How about if I revive a really old thread? MartyAnderson mentioned "The Best Fried Pies in Texas - therefore the World Dec 28th, 2004:" in Gainesville, TX, and my wife and I have eaten there, and bought some of their pies to go twice; not bad, but I'd have to say just "pretty good"; not quite what I prefer.
But this past week, we had occasion to go a bit farther north on I-35 and at Exit 51 in Oklahoma, we happened upon the Arbuckle Mountain Fried Pies restaurant. Now that's the kind of fried pies I've been looking for. Too bad it's so far from our house, or maybe it's a good thing that it's that far from our house, so I won't eat too many of them. If you click on their "MENU" and scroll down, you'll see the variety they make. The fresh fruit pies listed first were $2.50 each, but they're big ones. The cherry & blackberry are a little more. A half dozen warm cherry and a half dozen warm peach pies cost me $26.81 with tax. They also have frozen ones ("frozen within 6 hours of making") for $1.50 each by the dozen.
I'd never heard of the place and just happened to notice it as I was driving by on the old U.S. 77 highway.
