Fried Apple Pies

It looks like there is a BBQ place across the road but we did not try it.
If you're speaking of Smokey Mountain Barbeque, don't miss it next time in the area. It's excellent with much other good food besides BBQ.
As for fried pies, we make them here using basically a slightly smaller 9" pie crust folded over. Dried apples if you can get them.

Bird, I've seen that place near Turner Falls in the Arbuckles, but avoided it because I'm too easily tempted. From your link, I see they have sugar free fried pies, so we just might have to stop and sample the next time we are up that way. It's also a good day trip from the DFW Metroplex to go for a picnic and hiking. Here's a picture from 2006 when we stopped at the falls.

Jim, you know I grew up in that area and used to go swimming below the Falls. But last week, I was badly disappointed in the appearance of the Falls; looks like a serious water shortage in Honey Creek while the stock ponds up there all appeared to be in good shape. I was also very much disappointed in the appearance of the Cedarvale area.

And now for the funny thing. About 8 years ago I was up that way and visited a cousin who was managing the motel next to the fried pie place. I don't recall there being a fried pie place there back then, but maybe it was there. Anyway, my cousin's mother (my aunt) died 7 years ago. That was the last time I saw that cousin and I thought he moved back into Ardmore into the house his mother owned. So last week, I sent an e-mail to another cousin about 75 miles south of Dallas and he replied that if I'd hung around the fried pie restaurant a little longer, I'd have seen our Oklahoma cousin because he either owns or partly owns the fried pie place. That was news to me, and I have not verified the authenticity.

  • We were in the Smokey Mountains.
  • It was Smokey.
  • There was great smelling smoke from the restaurant.
  • They said it was BBQ.

So I am guess it is safe to say it was Smokey Mountain BBQ. :D

Is SMBBQ tomato based?

Later,
Dan

Wow! You might have been given the "family" discount. That's two for the price of three and they throw one in for free.;)
