Have you moved to a higher horsepower tractor?

I went from a 16.5 PTO HP tractor to a 24 PTO HP tractor soley to have enough power for a chipper (which took about 5 more years). With my 2.5 acres, 24 HP was perfect!
Both of the tractors were collarshift (non-synchro gear transmissions) which, with the exception of reverse, I was fine with.
Anyway...bought a tractor (and a great great deal!!!) with a sync-reverser transmission. Now, this one has 30 PTO HP and weighs about 4000 (plus) lbs (including the loader).
I'm happy with it and it'll easily power any implement I buy...but it is a tad big for 2.5 acres.

I know I *might* be beating a dead horse... You have 10 acres, right? Planning to expand to more acres? Are you that short on time? Going slow on a tractor is normal... 3-4 mph IS fast with a tractor... It's not a race car and is much faster than doing it with a horse.

Forget the 0% - it's built into the price... if you don't think so... never say anything about the 0% and act like you are paying in full with cash and work out your best deal... until you sign the paper. See what happens.

I would at least work the deal out and see how much it will cost you... are you going to trade in your old tractor???

You might be whoopin' that dead horse but that's ok. Yes I have 10 acres. It's leased to a farmer because it's on his farm. I don't touch it. I work my tractor for other people.
The dealer I work with has his price marked on every tractor. It's substantially below what the (msrp) prices on the Kubota builder come up with.
He does not negotiate. What he puts on the tractor is what you pay regardless of how you pay for it.

Here's an example...
One dealer allowed me 19,500 for my tractor. The dealer I'm working with only allowed me 15,000. The payments at each dealer were within $5 of each other.
I'd like to sell my tractor and buy the 5740 outright. I could do better that way but I want to trade next week and so far, I haven't had any lookers at mine and yes, I've put a few ads around.

As far as the speed, that's not really the issue. I really need/want more pto power.

:drink: :tractor::cloud9: That's cool... I could not justify the extra HP for myself but I was able to justify the "extra's" that I've added... Don't forget the photos, :D

I've had a 2250 for almost 20 years now. Nice little tractor for our 5 acres.

Neighbor moved onto the 40 acres adjacent and bought a new 5040. I've had lots of time on his tractor and using both tractors together as we tag-team on projects.

Have to say the extra oomph of the engine, plus the lift and capacity of the 854 loader, is really nice. OTOH, his machine is large enough that there are times when I'm happy to have a little more agility in a smaller machine.

If I were going to trade up I'd take a hard look at the 4240HST: all that loader capacity in a slightly smaller sized tractor. For our 5 acres, that would be just about perfect I think.

I just down-sized from an old Universal 45hp tractor to a Kubota L3400 34hp tractor. Of course I went from 2wd to 4wd, strong arm steering to power.

Besides, not really sure how many of those original horses where left

Downsizing is normal as you get older. Just ask my girlfriend.

actually, you're doing better than me....i went from an mx5000 to a 7040 and now an 8540. each jump was huge, and i'm glad i made the move to the 85 every time i use it albeit the hit i took...thankfull it's paid off.....my only suggestion (if u decide to make the jump and can squeeze all the trade in u can in the transaction) is to be SURE that the move will suffice your bigger is better thirst....spread all the specs out on the next few models up and sleep on it (including grand L vs. M series, which is another thread topic, but for me M is where it's at: more machine for the money spent in GL features, etc) anyway,i know where you're at and good luck .....
they say there's 1 man in 100 with a satisfied mind.....guess i'm still w/ the 99, but working on it......regards bb

The first Kubota around our place was an L345 - similar power and weight to your L3240. After a few years I traded up to a L4150, then up again to an L5450 - 60 hp and 7000 lb. - about twice the power and weight of the L345. I'm no longer looking for more tractor, but I missed the nimble L345 for some jobs, so a couple years ago I got another one. My wife understands that we "need" 2 tractors. ;)

My father in law, against my advice, traded a MF375 on a Case CX80 with a cab. About a month later, he went back and bought the 375 back and we still have it. There is no way we could get by with just one.
