M7040 to M9540

Congratulations on your purchase! I think you will be well pleased with your tractor. I have an M8540 (no rops) and use it on hills mowing. The extra size and weight is nice.

We use ours mowing hills and pond levies and iy a really stable platform; looks like you are pulling a Wood mower.

I logged about 6 hours this weekend on the new M9540 and all I can say is this is a significant upgrade from the 7040. It's amazing how smooth, quiet and powerful this beast is... The loader capacity is impressive. It's one thing to read the spec, but using it proved to be very functional and matched to the tractor. I'm glad I decided to upgrade!

I have a Woods DS96 and about 500 lbs of ballast on the front. The rears are all the way out and loaded. This year was the first to seriously use it. My wife thinks I should have gone with the cab!!

I love the cab and with my age/health can only use an open station for a couple of hours. Our 1998 Case CX80 went toes up this summer and I got behind and spent a lot of long days catching up when we traded for the 8540. I also have a cab on my L5030 which we bought before the 8540 and my wife insisted on getting it with a cab.:)

We haven't put any weight on the front yet, but have the wheels out with the big tires and loaded.

Just wondering if anybody has made the jump from an M7040 to M9540. If so, for what reason - other than MORE POWER!

When you made the jump, what was the biggest difference? The cab is the same, there's obviously an additional 25 turbo-charged horses, bigger tires, and a bigger loader and 3PH. What I'd like to know is what is the "wow this is way better" items.

Thanks in advance for your input!

If you are going to work the land, get 9540. If you just need a loader, backhoe tractor to dick around the farm, get 7040. Both are good. JD is better IMHO.

LOL! I love comments like this.

Maybe I should hang out in the JD forums and say Kubota is better IMHO.

I had 7040, was ok but too light for plowing or disc work, now I use JD5083E. It is a more stable tractor.

Now, I'm looking for used B3200 for my garden work. I don't marry the brand. I buy what is better for my needs. JD is overpriced (so is Kubota), but has better ag tractors. Kubota's strengths are in the mid range, B and L series. If you want a good ag tractor you go with JD. Period.

JD does not have good smaller tractors for garden work. Kubota does.
I would never buy a small JD tractor, unless Kubota goes out of business.

I recommended 9540, based on my experience with 7040.

Well this makes a little more sense than your original comment "JD is better IMHO" which implied John Deere is better than Kubota, not one model was better for a particular use.

I looked at John Deere models comparable my M8540 before buying and do not accept the John Deere equivalent is "better". Now if I spent a few days on both, I could say definitively, but won't base my opinion on my use of a different model.

I don't really consider the M8540 or JD 5083E as "Ag tractors". If I was getting an "Ag tractor", it would be a John Deere.
