Looking at moving up. I have a lawn that is uneven and I have been told that a 60" deck will scalp and damage my lawn more than a 54" deck is this true? The deck will be suspended under a B2320. Need advice and input. :confused2:

I went from a 54" to 60" deck and did not experience any scalping issues. There are quite a few old threads on this.

I went from a 60" to an 84" rear finishing mower. My lawn is also pretty uneven (guess they ran out of money when they graded this lot).
Anyway, no scalpng here either...but you do want an anti-scalp roller on your mower.

I went from 60" to 72" and I've never had any issues with scalping. I mow very rough (exfarmland) grass with plow furrows etc and don't have any dramas other than a very bouncy ride.

Just make sure your rollers are set properly and you should be fine.

I mow with a 54" MM deck. Get good results, however on bumpy ground it will scalp if I'm not careful or if gauge wheels set incorrectly...probably same as any size mower deck. I went for the 54" because of trees and tight spaces.

Some of the lawn was a cash crop field many years ago, taken back when the farm was severed off. the ground was never really been landscaped. The Bx w/ a 48" fine cut deck does a fine job. The comment of a 60" scalping was brought up by a relative w/ a B1700. That old B1700 is a great little tractor. The lawn is rolled every year as soon as you can get on the land (clay soil)

Rather than buy a new deck you should invest in a overseeder-dethatcher, plug aerator and a lawn roller (If you want too).

The reasons for this is unless your mower HAS a full width roller like all flail mowers or SOME brands of rear belly mowers your scalping will never end until the high spots are sheared by the mower blades completely.

I have a 60" mower and I mow a field that I'm beating into submission one load of top soil at a time. :) I get a little scalping when I make tight turns in dips (go figure) I like the 60" as it extends out the side further. Between the tight turning radius of the BX2350 and the extra length of my 60" mower I got rid of my trim mower.

Same here; no longer needed.

On a BX, I say its a hogwash since mine a 60" suspended deck. no scalping noticed on my lawn and I have uneven lawn in one area. Even if it scalps once, its tends not to do it again since the dirt is already outa the way.
