In reading this thread some people mention engaging the PTO and letting the clutch out slowly If this is an L3700SU how can there be a clutch. On my BX22 which is a hydrostat I just move the PTO lever and the PTO engages. Maybe that is a clutch. When engageing the PTO on the L3700 is that a foot clutch or what?

Yes, unlike the BX, the L/GL HST have foot clutches.

So what else does the foot clutch operate is it just for the PTO or does it have other functions.
Would the HST on the L3700 SU be like my BX22 where you select your range from a neutral postition, then just step on the pedal to go forward or back? The next time I go to town Ill see if there is one on the lot and look it over more carefully and drive it

You have to press the foot clutch to start the tractor...

The L Series like the B has a three range transmission, Low, Medium and High. According to the manual, you are supposed to push the clutch to change between ranges and to engage/disengage 4WD. My manual says nothing about using it to engage PTO though you can.

Once it is in gear, it works just like my BX.

Like Teg, I only use mine to start the tractor and nothing else.

Count me in also...the PTO doesn't "jump" on at all.
