Admission to the Front Porch

I'm a contrarian...I admit it. Always have been, always will be. Anytime there's an exclusive club I automatically never want to be a part of it. Front Porch strikes me as being like a neighborhood that builds a wall around their neck of the woods, shutting themselves out from the common folk and vice versa, all the while thinking life is better inside the 'hood' while in fact, the real living goes on outside the walls of the fortress.

TBN, while enjoyable, doesn't have a lock on useful tractor information. An important part of what makes the site interesting is the wide variety of personalities and input. Take a chunk of those personalities and inputs and put them behind a firewall and you've done your website a disservice. Although, that is arguable. It's possible that those forum members who choose to do their posting and information dissemination only in the front porch area have a personality characteristic that would detract from the openness and willingness to help their fellow man that exists in the forum at large.

Reminds me of the Mensa club. I've always thought that if you were truly of genius or near-genius intellect, joining the Mensa club automatically disqualifies you from being that smart. Any smart person knows he can learn something from every human being on Earth and that intellect can be manifested in an infinite number of ways, not just being articulate or loud-mouthed.

What? No "rant" emoticon in this forum?

Maybe some background info on the front porch will help.

Several of us started a thread for simply jackin' our jaws and keeping in touch with what we had going on in our lives. A younger member complained that our thread wasn't appropriate and should be removed from TBN because it didn't have anything useful for the forum or other members in it. After Muhammad looked it over, his solution was to create the front porch as a place where we can go for just that purpose. There is actually very little useful tractor info there. Just a bunch of old men shootin' the bull.

I don't know of anyone that has quit the open forum or quit helping others because of the front porch, but it does give us a place to BS without detracting from the rest of the forum.

If someone was to start a thread on tractor repair on the front porch, I would be suprised if Muhammad didn't move it to the appropriate area of the open forum as that is where that type of thread belongs.

I hope this helps.

the first and only time I ran up against the "front porch" was when I wanted to have a look at wroughten Harv's welding table that he was in the miller contest with and was denied from having a look. It left a bad impression with me then and it hasn't changed since. I don't contribute that much anyway but that's only because years ago when I was a little more exuberant I was treated ignorantly by someone and at that point I decided to sit back and watch from the cheap seats. works for me, enjoy yourselves.

Let me find that thread and we will get it moved..

As Cyril said the front porch is the proverbial shoot the breeze place.

As the OP on the thread that caused the porch to be opened, I truly only want it for those conversations that are not tractor nor informational..
Just us friends chatting..

I truly hope that folks understand that it really is not some secret mensa like club but rather for people who chat alot and value the friendship of those we chat with so frequently...
