Ruger 10/22. I'll admit I don't shoot aspirin at 50 yards, but I'd give it a go at 25. This was my first .22, and probably my last. It's good enough to not need another.

Ruger 10/22 for plinking, affordable, fun to shoot rifle. But my favorite overall plinking, fun gun to shoot is my Ruger .22 Mark II pistol. I've had more people then I can even remember out here to shoot, from youngsters to grandma's. Everyone wants to shoot the 22 pistol. It's just a fun, easy gun to shoot.

Ruger 10/22, isnt exactly a target rifle, but close enough. and sure is the most fun 22 rifle on the planet, and the one you can find the most aftermarket parts for to turn it into whatever you want it to be. I have 2 of them, one in the safe is a competition gun, and the other one is the backdoor, varmit getter with the red dot sight on it. They are hard to beat.

I have a Ruger Mark II. One heck of a pistol. It is the most accurate handgun that I own. I also have a S&W K22 Masterpiece. My Ruger Mark II will out shoot my K22 but I enjoy shooting the K22 more. Old fashioned I guess I am.

My favorite 22 to shoot is my Taurus repro of the Browning Model 63. Its an autoloader that you feed through a routed out slot in the side of the stock. Very clean lines and its heavy and compact. Has amazing balance. Not very accurate unfortunately, but hands down the most satisfying to shoot.

I am in the market for an accurate 22 however, and I would like it to be a bolt action to serve as my practice for my Tikka t-3 Hunter(wood stock) in 243.

My research has yielded the Weatherby MarkXXII with the Anschutz action, and the Ruger 77-22 with the varmint barrel. I am leaning toward the Ruger since it uses the same clip as the 10-22 and has a lot of interchangeable parts. The Anschutz action in the weatherby is renown for accuracy, But I think I can get the Ruger to the same level with some TLC.

For just plinking, I dont think I have ever shot a .22 that wasnt fun for that. Except maybe dads old springfield single shot that had the big knob on the back of the bolt that needed "cocked" before each shot.

I have a little henry .22. One of the ones from walmart for $180 (two years ago). It is almost as fun to shoot as an autoloader.

I used to have a 10/22. Very fun to shoot allthough I am perfectionest when shooting and It just wasnt quite accurate enough for me. I traded it in on a Marlin 880SQ. Heavy barrel bolt action. IMO for $200, it cant be beat. It is definatally a tack driver. I can shoot a 7 shot group (clip only holds 7) @ 50 yards and a dime will cover all of them most of the time. That is net even with match ammo. Usually just remington thunderbolts. It's topped with a 4x-18x simmons. It is an absolutly lethal squirrel gun:D

Mine is an old Marlin 39 lever action with a 24" barrel and a 4x scope.
My eyes aren't what they used to be, so I'm more a plinker then a target shooter anymore.

Henry lever actions are nice too! I had one of those for a couple years...then the Marlin came around.
