But you do understand that it is more than connectivity speed, right? How about space requirements on both ends? Database conversion routines (if applicable), Storage technology? Software versioning, Indexing, access controls, rules and laws applicable to copyright processing? etc. etc.

And some end-users have no choice! I hope you don't think the entire globe and the US of A is covered by "high" speed broadband. Cause it ain't and it's a darn shame. Especially here in the States.

I belong to several camera forums that have a rule regarding photo posting. The photo size must not exceed 640x480 pixels. I suspect that the reason for the rule has to do with at one time we all had the original and very slow dial-up land line internet connection. To my knowledge TBN does not have this rule.
Times have changed and internet connections have increased at near light speed which now makes downloading photos of larger pixel sizes no longer a timely issue, however there are still forum members who for one reason or another continue to use the older and and slower dial-up connection.
Please poll your internet connection by:
Type in the letter "H" (high speed) if you have other than standard dial-up.
Type in "D" if you have standard dial-up.
No further message is required.
Please do participate.

You also have to remember that before TBN put in the feature that autosizes the photos down to a little box, if someone put in a wide in-line photo, it will blast out the video way over to the right side of most monitors 17" and under. It is not just bandwidth, but aesthetics. ;)

H = wireless from a tower. But it's not really "H" :laughing:

Sadly, many folks on TBN do not reduce their JPG sizes when uploading
pix to the Forum. It is easy enough to do, though I shoot for 1000x1000
pixels at low compression, which yields file sizes just under 100KB usually.

When trying to view extra-large pix on TBN, my browser does not
automatically reduce megabyte-size photos, making them hard to view.

I have the lowest speed DSL here (1Mbs) from Verizon, though they
offer 3Mbs for twice as much. I can not get the higher speeds (7 and
15Mbs) due to the lack of fiber-optic cables here. I am sure that AT&T
has similar offerings.

I guess I am an 'H'.

H- DSL here,..... and yes it is just as riptides saying, the allowed size has to do more with the available storage on the site, and by reducing the allowed amount of pictures size to each who uploads a pictures helps to have enough storage to share with the members of that site,
