What a difference a year makes. Last year was one of the mildest on record and this year they are forecasting a long hard winter. Got six inches of snow and lost power for about 10 hours overnight. Last winter we only had one snow fall of 2-3 inches that was gone within days. It's not even winter yet. Yikes.

We've been lucky at our new place, the only power outage we had was due to the earthquake during the summer.

Up in Hanmer we had power failures practically every snow fall ... was quite annoying

I am with Thomas don't send it. As being with a utility I don't like playing outages!

I can tell you that it would be excellent to get the snowmobile roaring again ... last year was pathetic with the mid season thaw

We got your winter last year here in the NC mountains.
We had our worst winter in 50 years!
We had 7 measurable snow falls.
I started scraping my driveway and I had so much snow that I had the road blocked.
I just started piling it up in big piles, then it stayed for months.
The bad part was we usually go south to Florida but we could not leave last winter due wifes mother's health problems.
You folks just keep that snow up there and have fun.

Perspective. It's a funny thing.

Nobody likes loss of power and many folks don't care for snow, but up here, like many other places, snow is vital.

We'd be a desert without it.

We get close to 75% of our annual precipitation via snow. We HAVE to receive snow. We only complain if we don't get our prescribed allotment.

Must be old age. I'm not looking forward to this next season at all. Seems like living in the north part of the continent means ya spend wishing half your life away hoping it was spring.

Took me awhile to understand why there are so many "snowbirds".

Keep it! I am in VA - we rarely get much snow to begin with and almost never enough to worry about. Last year - more than a couple small ones, a few 10 or 11" ones and then a huge couple footer. Last one was pretty painful since they are very rare here and power was out for over 5 days.

This year's prediction here is for a lot of single small snowstorms but not expecting any to be a foot or more. I was totally unprepared last year but will be fine for about 3 days before hoping at that point there's a way for trucks to be able to refuel the gas stations. Keep the snow up north, they can have it!

Different places, different snow and different attitudes.

We used to live in western Montana and enjoyed the snow and annual precip was only about 16 inches, much of which was snow. Lost power maybe twice in 3 winters.

In western Oregon the snow is a nuisance. Don't get it often enough for people to know how to drive in it; it is wetter & slicker than the Montana snow and we lose power 4-6 times each winter due to wind and falling trees. If rain changes to snow or vice versa it's a cold rain and the coldest I've ever been is at 33 degrees with rain and wind. And we get about 66 inches of precip.

I hate November, December & January & would move in a heartbeat if it weren't for family.

OK, enough grumble, grumble. I'll cheer up in February when I can see Spring approaching just a couple months off.
