:welcome: to TBN! What kind of things will you be using your new tractor for? There are so many applications like dirt work, small scale excavation, mowing, snow removal, grading, etc.

sorry, i had posted question hear earlier but deleted it as i didn't realize this was the introduction to the board. Since your asking give you the rundown. I'm in the market for a CUT. I've got my eye on an NH TC21D, 430 hours, with a FEL. Great condition. I can't get them lower than 8200. I've seen them online recently listed for as high as 10,500 equipped just like the one i'm looking at with the same hours, or slightly more. I have also seen them around 6500 with no FEL. I'm guessing this is a fair price?

I'll be using this to maintain a long driveway, landscape work in the yard, hauling dirt, gravel etc? I'm pretty sure the 21hp will handle this? Or will it struggle? 5ft box scrape? Anything else i should look at before the purchase?

thanks!

The price is about right for that tractor. I have seen some TC21D's and they are similar size wise to my Yanmar. I wouldnt get it without a FEL, there are so many uses for a FEL that you will regret not having one. 430 hours are low, its just breaking in. What condition is it in, rate it at 1-10 on servicing, any mechyanical issues, leaks, dents, etc. I think that a 5 foot boxblade will be a bit much, I'd look more into a 4 foot heavy duty unit. I use a KingKutter XB boxblade wit is very sturdy and yet will not be overkill to the size of my tractor. 21 hp is reasonable, similar power to a SCUT. No, it is not comparable to the new gas 22 hp engine riding mowers as a diesel will output much much more totrque than a gas engine and preform at higher standards. Your lift capacity will probably be around 500 pounds, enough to do light excavation yet be effective enough to accomplish a bit in a day. Things to look at with purchase is try the fwd, turn in a tight cirle and if the tires in front pull or leaves tread marks on pavement than it works well. Check for oil leaks, inspect where uit was parked for oil spots and look for spots where fluid may be leaking. Try every gear and drive the trctor up a hill to see if the tranny isnt weak. Try the PTO out, operate the FEL, try to lift the front of the machine off the ground with the FEL. Let the FEL stay up in the air mid way for about 1 minute. i used a tractor wih internal hydraulic leaks and the tilt and curl cylinders will slowly fade or dump the empty bucket. Try out the electrical features. Try to lift a load with the 3 point hitch such as an implement or ballast weight. Does the engine smoke? Try reving the engine from low throttle to full trottle slowly, watch for any smoke, watch the engine temp. gauge. If the temp gauge goes up to the red (unlikely) then open the hood, remove the air filter and clean it out by lightly tapping it against a relitively clean surface. These are things that I look at when I purchase a machine. Glad to help. :)

Thanks for all the helpful info. This tractor would probably get a very strong 8-9 rating. No dents, no deep down to the metal scratches. What few brush scratches it has coud be waxed right out. The black plastic around the gears is of course faded to a whitish grey. Cosmetically, the only thing is the seat is torn, and the rubber floor mat just at the edge is worn a little. It does not have a huge build up of gunk and grease. It has all manuals and filters were dated August 2010/403 hours. So it seems maintenance has been routinely done. The engine fires right up and sounds great! I'll be sure to do all your test on my next trip as i'm really leaning toward getting it.

But, you caught my attention when you mention the Yanmar. There is a guy local that deals in the grey market yanmars. I was eyeing this Yanmar Tractor 2010D 4x4 Loader - $8300 . They look good in the pictures, i called the guy and he told me everything that had been done to them, but can not tell me the original hours as new hour meters were but in them when there we re-built. For the same price, i'm leaning toward the local New Holland that i know a little more about the history. What do you think?

If you'd like to look the yanmars over click on the craigslist link and search this phone number. craigslist: charlotte classifieds for jobs, apartments, personals, for sale, services, community, and events

thanks again for all your advice so far
