Country music is dead?

What I don't like is the "crossroads" or "fusion" with rock acts from the 70's or 80's. I really think that this is done by the record companies. I really don't want to hear a Jon Bon Jovi duet with Toby Keith!!!

I'm a big fan of classic rock from the 60's and 70's.

The newer country music reminds me of the bands like the Eagles, CCR and Doobie Brothers.

Eddie

I'm not sure if I'd go as far as comparing them with the great classic bands like the Eagles or CCR, :D what use to be a wide margin between country and rock has narrowed, actually there should be a new name for the so called country music of today, and it shouldn't be country rock, because these are suppose to be entirely 2 different styles of music, I just can't seem to come up with it:cool:
perhaps it should be called country/corrupt...
I remember back when Bluegrass mixed with rock and they called it rockabilly, that wasn't too bad although the Ricky Scags of that time quickly come and went, not enough listeners or liker's of that style music,
the problems is! there are not enough people left these days to reproduce the old style Hank Williams or Hank Jr. country style music and evidently not enough of us older generation around with the taste for it, so soon it will be a thing of the past, the ones that have attempt to reproduce the songs have added their own twist to them bassically robbing the lyrics and putting all new sound to it a sound that I don't care to hear put with the songs that I knew, Travis Tritt did come in for a short while in the beginning of his carer singing old style country, but then soon give way to country rock, and then went to full rock, so I guess performers like this should give some insight of whats going on with the interest of this generation and young listeners, I remember times when hearing older folks say when I try to change the radio station "you don't know how to appreciate good music boy" well maybe its come time that perhaps the once appreciated old style country music must fade away and give room for the whatever they start calling it? but it can never be called the Golden Country music we all remember;) RIP Golden Classic Country:(

I mean, I listen to country music most of the time, but lately it is just annoying. If you compare classics like All my exes live in Texas or Mama don't let your babies grow up to be cowboys or the good old Johny Cash - current country music just plain sucks; wouldn't you agree? There is a lot of whining and nothing catchy in lyrics or melody.

A lot of people's musical tasts just change over time.

Here in Texas we actually have our own genre of country music called Texas Music which is a subset of Americana Music. One of the best stations that you can get online is KNBT out of New Braunfels Texas at 92.1 FM or KNBT.fm/. Especially listen in on Tuesday nights when Ray Wylie Hubbard does "Roots and Branches of Americana" and you will, again, know that country music is alive and well in Texas.

There are many, many great new Texas bands and musicians from the Canadian River to the Intracoastal and from the Red River to the Rio Grande.

I like the old stuff better too. I quit listening to modern country when the local radio channel played a song with some foul language while I had my 6 year old daughters in the truck. I think the line was "my toes in the water, --- in the sand". Filth like that does not belong on public airwaves. My kids would get thrown out of school if the teachers heard them talking like that. It is pretty sad that what long ago consumed other forms of music has finally caught up with country. In the old days, the few songs that had foul language were at least bleeped out when they hit the public airwaves, no more I guess. I bought a record player and enjoy listening to old Johny Cash and others that I find at flea markets and such. I am sad to have never seen that man in concert but I did catch a very good show by an impersonator, Terry Lee Goffey last winter. Even though he aint the original, that show was as good as most of the "real acts" I have seen. I did catch Merle Haggert a couple years ago at the county fair and he still sang well with the Strangers. I also remember a few great Hank Jr concerts as well as Alabama, Waylon, John Conlee and John Anderson. Charlie Daniels is in a class by himself as a live performer, switching instruments fast as lightning. As far as those who are popular today, I can only think of a few, like George Strait, who I care to listen to. Every so often a modern artist will come out with something that has some real feeling to it but not many of them can hold a candle to the old stuff. I cant think of her name, but a young female star belted out a song something about "home in Tenesee" at the CMA awards a few years ago and that was about the best TV performance I ever saw. Songs like that, that come from the heart, seem to be the exception rather than the rule these days.

I rarely listen to the radio. I have a jump drive loaded with over 300 songs. I control what I listen to. By the way there are lots of Eagles, George Strait, and Alan Jackson songs. Very little "new" stuff.

I think the SF Bay Area was the only major market in the United States without a country station for time...

I do find that I don't care for much of the new stuff in the last few years...

There are also artist that keep producing the music I like...

The market has definitely shifted and maybe that is why country is back on the Radio here.

George Strait, Allen Jackson, and Kenny Chesney who sings "She Thinks My Tractors Sexy"

Any music that I can understand the lyrics is a plus...

I am sick of Kenny Chesney's island songs. My wife and I got in to country dancing several years ago and are always listning for new songs to dance with. The old country is still the best but now and then a new songs comes along that fits a dance better than the original. I am like most of you and get fed up with the top 40 country songs and defalt back to my Ipod. Farming season is the worse when you can hear the same songs several times an hour. I still like switching back to the 70s stuff I grew up with.

I agree, but still listen with hopes to find something I like. The one band (I use the term band loosely here) "Big and Rich" I never did understand their appeal.
I'm a channel hopper. So I alternate between a couple of country stations, XM and a classic rock that play 60'80's music.
I keem my XM radio in channel 10.
