ORB means O-Ring Boss;) JIC fittings have a 37* taper/flare on them.

It would help a lot if you told us what you are trying to connect?

I'm trying to connect some 1/2" hydraulic hoses with NPT Threads to my control valve . BLB - BM20/5 - 5-Spool Control Valve - eBay (item 320295452598 end time Dec-23-10 12:31:17 PST) That has 1/2" ORB threads. So I was wondering if that fitting would fit a NPT threaded hose?

So I need a 1/2" male orb fitting with a 1/2" female NPT end. So that way I can connect my NPT hoses to my valve with ORB threads. I searched for ORB to NPT fittings on tractorsupply.com and all I could come up with was this fitting Swivel Adapter, 1/2 in. Male O-Ring Boss x 1/2 in. Female Pipe Swivel - 1818626 | Tractor Supply Company

I was wondering if pipe meant NPT even though they don't mention NPT.

I hope I explained that right. If not let me know.

Chad, "pipe" does indeed mean NPT. The fitting you linked from TSC is correct. You should also consider DHH, they have a much wider selection than does TSC.

Here is a thread chart I use all the time, it may be helpful to you: http://www.discounthydraulichose.com/Size_Charts_s/55.htm

What you'll probably end up doing is either getting new ends swaged onto your hoses, or use a female pipe coupling between the hose and a 1/2 NPT male to 1/2 male ORB adapter. If the hoses aren't too long, it may be worth your while to get new ones made, otherwise you're going to have an awkward looking conglomeration of fittings.

The ORB fittings aren't tapered threads, so the NPT fitting will probably leak if you mount it directly to the valve.

Another option is to get an "adjustable" 90* elbow with female pipe threads on one end, and male ORB on the other. The ORB end has a bulkhead fitting type nut and washer behind the o-ring so you can set the angle where you want it, then screw your hose end into the female pipe end. I used these except with a JIC end in place of the pipe thread.

KennyD,

Slightly off topic, I know JIC is 37*, is JIS 45*??
