Help identifying hydraulic fittings. JIC and ORB

On the fitting in this ebay listing. (20) 6400-08-08 Steel Hydraulic Fittings 1/2" JIC x ORB - eBay (item 380171052459 end time Dec-17-10 14:07:42 PST) Which is the JIC end and which is the ORB end? I'm assuming the ORB end is the one with the Oring? But not sure.

ORB means O-Ring Boss

JIC fittings have a 37* taper/flare on them.

Thanks. I just realized I got the 1/2" hoses with NPT ends instead of the JIC ends. So I was looking around on tractorsupply's website and found this adapter. It's says it's a ORB to Female pipe adapter. But doesn't say NPT.

So is this the one I need for my NPT hoses? Swivel Adapter, 1/2 in. Male O-Ring Boss x 1/2 in. Female Pipe Swivel - 1818626 | Tractor Supply Company

Chad, "pipe" does indeed mean NPT. The fitting you linked from TSC is correct. You should also consider DHH, they have a much wider selection than does TSC.

What you'll probably end up doing is either getting new ends swaged onto your hoses, or use a female pipe coupling between the hose and a 1/2 NPT male to 1/2 male ORB adapter. If the hoses aren't too long, it may be worth your while to get new ones made, otherwise you're going to have an awkward looking conglomeration of fittings.

The ORB fittings aren't tapered threads, so the NPT fitting will probably leak if you mount it directly to the valve.

Another option is to get an "adjustable" 90* elbow with female pipe threads on one end, and male ORB on the other. The ORB end has a bulkhead fitting type nut and washer behind the o-ring so you can set the angle where you want it, then screw your hose end into the female pipe end. I used these except with a JIC end in place of the pipe thread.
