OK, I'm with you now. Your last post about Walmart has so much ridiculous content, in addition to a little bit of truth, it had to be in levity. Kind of like your first post about Target.:laughing::laughing:

Incidentally, we have a (new in the last 4 years) super Target. I don't like them for reasons of my own, but they do a number of charitable things locally each year and are apparently quite a popular store.

What are Wal-Mart's firearms policies?

I kind of wondered about that myself. I've been in at least 9 Walmart super centers; never seen any handguns, although I do think they all had just a few rifles and shotguns; very few, in fact. I've never bought any guns from them, but I have bought .38 spl. and 9mm ammo from them.

Our Wal-Mart stores don't carry handguns and rarely have any ammunition. I was told by a local store manager that firearms were not a priority and she would not consider stocking them. This is the heart of farming and hunting country unlike some other stores located in non rural areas.

I believe the Wal-Mart as envisioned by Sam Walton no longer exists.

I now buy all my firearms at a local hardware store where the are quite reasonable or drive to St. Louis to Bass Pro or Cabela's.

That's an interesting link. Of course, it's a bit over 2.5 years old, and I don't recall seeing any handguns and relatively few long guns in Walmarts even 10-15 years ago. I had no idea Walmart was ever big in the gun business; much less the biggest. Of course, I have a Cabela's less than 30 miles down the Interstate and a Bass Pro less than 15 miles from here. In fact, Bass Pro has a nice indoor range where I shot up a 50 round box of .38 spl. and a 50 round box of 9 mm ammo this morning. Cabela's doesn't have a firing range, but they do have a large assortment of both guns and ammo.

Yes, that is when they implemented it. Our Wal-Mart stores used to carry a full line of rifles, shotguns and handguns and I bought quite a few there over the years. They also carried a lot of ammo as I am in the middle of farming and hunting area.

The Bass Pro in Springfield has or use to have a nice indoor range too, but that is 200 miles away and I am about 125 miles from St. Louis. I really like to handle a gun before buying one, so I miss being able to do that at Wal-Mart. I went to St. Louis last year fully intending to buy a Kahr 9mm or .40 as a "pocket gun", but after handling it went with a S&W 638 w laser grips, an oldie, but goodie. I carried Glocks as my duty weapons, but don't like lugging that much weight around anymore. If I carry anything very heavy, I tend to walk in circles.:laughing:

I don't have an indoor range close by, but we have a range in my back yard for handguns and a range for handguns/long guns out to 300 yards at our other farm. Gotta love living in the country.:thumbsup:

I can understand that. The Bullet Trap, Inc. is only about 18 miles from me, but is not freeway or even highway so it's slow going. They not only sell a wide variety of guns, but have wide variety of rental guns you can use on their indoor range. I've used their indoor range a few times, but it's too far and too expensive for me to use very often.

Gotta wonder if WM got out of handguns as a purely risk reduction move. Wasn't it about 15 years ago or so lawyers were going after weapon manufacturers, claiming that they were ultimately "responsible" for the actions of those who use guns while committing crime?

Obviously, WM has very deep pockets. So, naturally, they have to consider every move they make when it comes to possible litigation.

That could very well be the case and I am not bashing Wal-Mart, I just choose not to shop there. I am old enough to remember going to Sear when they stocked just about every type of firearm you could think of and they also got out of that business as did many others.

I guess it is just a sign of the times.

Yep, a trip to the big city was not complete without a trip to Sears and Montgomery Ward. Heck, my first rifle was a Marlin Golden Mountie Carbine ordered from a catalog and picked up at the local train station.
