As far as the Suburban goes, I have to agree about the "lot rot". It truly is a very nice vehicle, in fact probably the nicest one I've owned and I'm glad to be able to put my wife in it. We really liked the 05 and wanted to move up a few years and liked the new body style.

The point mentioning that the Suburban was in the shop was to say that no matter what (brand) it is **** will happen.

I've have/had owned 3 brand new GM trucks and they served thier purpose well. Of course right out of the box all 3 of them had problems, but so did the Ford trucks I had as well. So as one can see, I've supported both companies and each has had the good and bad.

as good as I did / do every time mine rolls over on it's back and has to be towed to a shop.

I FOR SURE hope his is a normal ./ good vehicle. I don't wish repairs on anybody.

but he SHOULD hear of what other owners have experienced both good and bad.

to sugar coat it or only show one side skews the facts.

Some of the crap I read here is about as transparent as a 3 foot thick mud wall :laughing:......"Fantasy" or "Dilusions" are probably more applicable than "transparency".

for what it's worth, if anything.. due to the size.. it should be a safe vehicle.

my wife drives our yukon. I won't ever put her in a car again. had a fender bender in our 2009 kia ( someone hit her while she was stopped at a light ).. and it TOTALED it....

at least that suburban is a nice large vehicle.. will be good protection. When ours finally dies, I'll probably stick her in a f350 or similar.. staying in a large frame truck for safety..

Well I'll let you all know how the 6.0 Powerstroke holds out. I've put 59,000 km's on mine since August and usually do 5 to 6000 a week pulling trailers. Should be a good test. Only thing I dislike about mine is it seems hard to hold a steady speed. Even when you set the cruise and take you foot off the pedal....it will drop over 10 kph then race up to 10 above set speed before it levels off.

Living in Norther Indiana I see tons of guys doing like you transporting Campers for a living. I would say 50% are in Fords, 40% in Dodges, and 10% in GM's. That tells me a lot. These guys make a living doing this like you do.

As for the Cruise Control. I have 2 6.0's and neither have a problem holding speed though most of the time when pulling my 15,600# load with my 06 F-350 I do not use the cruise and just use my foot.

Hey I also meant to share something else with you guys but forgot to jot it down earlier. It's been hectic around here with preparations for the new baby girl.

Anyways, in my extensive late night obsession with my laptop researching the 6L situation I found a very interesting website that more or less helped me to decide to go forth with getting the F350. www.powerstrokehelp.com

He has many informational videos about the powerstroke line of engines. One thing I found interesting is that when he compared the 7.3L to the 6.0L he made mention that the last year or so of the 6.0L had much less warranty claims than all of the others. Perhaps I'll watch it again to make sure I understood it right but at this point who cares.

A side note.....Today the parts guy from the dealer delivered to the firehouse my new oem floormats and a few other dodads that I needed/wanted. I was really impressed that he did that instead of me having to go there when I get off in the morning. He also took the time to make sure I liked them after I put them in and to stand around and BS for a bit. It sure made a good impression with the guys here at the firehouse.....

the last long haul i made witht he 6.0/250 was a red eye 41 hr trip from mid florida to mid texas and back hauling an empty 16' trailer up plus a lil cargo in the bed, and probably 7k total load back. used cruise on the open roads.. never had an issue except in lousiana where ther roads are totally worthless.. on the places that had concrete segmented pavement they were so uneven the truck would jump and surge in cruise so had to fott it during that stretch of I 10 and I 12 thru there..

fortunately I have a better tow vehicle now, and even better.. a nicer trailer. the bumper pull don't get used mutch.. but i l-o-v-e that gooseneck....

Funny you mention that Chris. There sure are a lot of Fords. A lot of it is the little things......like compare the rear view mirrors on a Ford to the others. And they were first to offer the factory trailer brake controller and upfitter switches.
The company I have my truck on with hates Ford's though. They keep telling me I will have trouble with my 6.0, just a matter of time. Hope I prove them wrong, lol. They are Dodge guys.....in their words, they would rather put a front end in a Dodge every 50,000 than rebuild a motor in a Ford. We have very few guys with GM's in the fleet....and they are older ones.
But ALL the RV towing companies I talk to have one thing they all agree on.....when they buy company trucks for themselves they find all the 2007 and older units they can find. No one wants a 2008-up dpf emissioned turd.

Maybe I'll get mine in to get that throttle/cruise checked.....maybe just needs an update or something?

I agree Soundguy.....5th wheels are sooo much nicer to pull than bumper pulls.
