Internet option for air only locations

since I made this post windstream has offered dsl. Already got the wireless modem from them and the service guys where here to do whatever on the pole but I think since I ordered the 12mbps they have to do additional work and wont get service til monday. Trust me, I can wait. $49 a month for 12mbps unlimited vs 425mb/24hr 1.3mbps for $80..plus the latency and the ungodliest upload speed.

I think going with DSL is a wise decision.. 12mbps is something I can only dream about LOL

Im holding out for 4G wireless in our neighborhood, that should double or triple our speeds - but I may need a new computer to best utilize that much speed..

We dont have 'smart phones' so I didnt even have a clue we had 3G coverage in our area - i was quite surprised and pleased.. around here we have pretty good 3g coverage, at least with Verizon..

I've been using the Rogers Rocket Hub ......... the cell towers are now over subscribed. I have an external yagi antenna so I've always got full signal but in the evenings the throughput drops so low that most web sites time out. .........Rogers does not appear to have planned their data backhaul correctly taking into account the impact that all those smart phone would have. At least that's the story I see in Kemptville area.

I'm now waiting for Bell to string cable along my 1200 foot driveway and give me a land line with dsl.

I'm using the Rogers modem at my place. Service has been very good. The Bell version did not work at all.

Try setting your DNS addresses manually to a public server. I have been using Googles ( 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 ) and it seems to have fixed any issues with traffic overload.

I'm considering adding a Cradlepoint router to solve some printer connectivity issues (and as a get-around to the mifi's 5 device limit). Which model do you have?

Thanks. I've been able to print through my Verizon MiFi, but I have to reset the printer connection every time I want to do so. Thus my desire to run the network through a "real" router.

I think my wireless printer is getting/sending the signal through my Verizon MIFI. Every time I turn on the MIFI a page prints out with "ATEOV1" on the top of the page. Anyone know what this is about?????

before my cradlepoint router, if I wanted to print via the mifi I had to manually enter the WPA password to put the printer on the mifi network, then switch it back for the house network. what a pain. Now it works great.
