I'm always busting a valve stem on my fronts, any advice?
I have a idea of welding a theaded metal pipe on the wheel around the valve stem and capping the pipe. Any thoughts on this?
Thanks All!

Install very short valve stems, like ATV and UTVs have. That way there is no leverage

The newer rims come with a short piece of half pipe welded on the rim. Just take a length of pipe a tad bit longer than your stems. Then cut it in half lengthwise. Then weld one of the halves onto the rim.

1. NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

2. You will ruin the rims!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

3. do you have a death wish???????

Take the tires to a local tire shop that does tractor and truck tires and purchase short metal base stems and have them remounted with them and that will survive the abuse.

What are you doing, and where are you going to do all this damage? The short metal valve stems are what you need.

That will work fine, used a lot on logging equipment...

Check the offroad magazines... They have all kinds of stem protectors...
Weld them on will work fine... check the heavy equipment around your area, most will have something welded on the rims...

Very few will be killed using weld on protectors... and unless your rims are made of plastic or sculpted from butter... you will not ruin your rims by welding on them... KennyV

You wont ruin your rims by welding on them but you will ruin your life if you dont dismount and take off the tire. Even breaking the bead may not be enough they can reseat by themselves instantly and killing you. see this little welding demo.

If your going to weld a piece of pipe around the valve stem hole the tire will at least need to be debeaded and something holding it away from the metal your welding and the stem will have to be removed or it will burn up from the heat long before you have to worry about the tire exploding.

If you do weld some pipe to it make sure you paint the wheels, both inside and outside well so it doesn't rust.

When I use to dirt track race we avoided metal stems because they have no give and snap off. I'm not sure if they would do better on a tractor or not.

Were you thinking I was going to do it with a inflated tire on?:confused2:
That's the first thing I thought of, thank you though for the warning, I could see someone just being absent minded and super focused on a new idea or something and doing that. Definately do not want a explosion to the face!
