OK, I checked and the PTO shaft is not too long. In fact, the banging noise does not start until after I raise the blower up past the point where the PTO shaft is level. (Remember it slopes downward when the blower is lowered right to the ground.) So, as I raise the blower off the ground, the shaft shortens to its shortest point, and then begins to lengthen again, and that is when the banging starts. The dealer confirmed this, and said you cannot raise those blowers too high when the PTO is engaged. Strange that there was nothing about this in the manual!
