Here's a couple of photos. As you can see, the down angle is not sharp.

AHA!!!!!!!!!!

Unthread the top link out about an inch, its too short, and it will level out and the binding should stop.

what is the tube that is connected to the left side of the snowblowers left side?

Did you get a chance to double check if the PTO is not too long? Another test you could do would be to raise it all the way up and shut the tractor off. With the PTO disengaged try turning the pto by hand or the secondary impeller and see if there's something physically binding or hitting. Then drop it down a little and retest it. Try to do it in plenty of positions including one where the PTO is straight. Just be careful not to let the blower drop on you.

Since it runs fine when down you should be able to feel something different when up. You may also want to closely watch the PTO shaft when raising and lowering the blower just in case it is too long, maybe you'll see something odd.

I would agree that checking the PTO shaft length (there is a blurb in the manual on how to do this) and making sure the blower is leveled correctly (the top link thing) are the best places to start. While I'm typing, don't follow the manuals on the size of the shear pins (if you have them). It's wrong, twice in 2 different spots. The ones I got on the pto shaft are M6-1.0 x 45MM (8.8). The drive shaft one is 1/4-20 x 1 3/4" (Grade 5). I do hope you post back with anything you find.

pto shaft is too long like everyone said. your manual should have told you how to check it. Its a common issue with BX's. A hacksaw will solve the problem quickly or you can use a quick attach frame to gain 4 inches or so. I had same prob with tiller, it makes clattering noise in all the way up position. using the HF QH stopped the noise.

That is the rod for the manual rotator.

Not the chute rotator handle,
the black tube that is attached to the
left side of the 3 point hitch triangle
if you are looking at it from the rear.

OK, I checked and the PTO shaft is not too long. In fact, the banging noise does not start until after I raise the blower up past the point where the PTO shaft is level. (Remember it slopes downward when the blower is lowered right to the ground.) So, as I raise the blower off the ground, the shaft shortens to its shortest point, and then begins to lengthen again, and that is when the banging starts. The dealer confirmed this, and said you cannot raise those blowers too high when the PTO is engaged. Strange that there was nothing about this in the manual!

You must be getting it to the point where the angle is too much for the u-joint on the PTO. Maybe you can rig something up to let you know where to stop lifting it when the PTO is running.
