PA Amish Cabinet Mfg/Makers Know Any??????

We are going to put in a new kitchen and we are thinking of using the Amish to construct the cabinets. They do quality work and are reasonable we like the simple style and furniture look. We are located about 2 hours from Lancaster, PA. I was wondering if anyone has used a Amish kitchen cabinet makers and if they can provide a name? Based on my limited search on the net I know many do not have a phone, no computer, and may not like to deal with outsiders.

I live in Western PA where there are many Amish. The Newville area has at least 4 who do cabinets. Be warned however, many Amish and Amish-like people see us as "ENGLISH" and therefore DEVILS. Devils can be cheated, lied to without violating their brand of Christianity. You must watch your cabinets being made, the material of construction. Be firm and fair.

I've dealt with many Amish over the years, mainly from the Berlin, Mt. Hope, Kidron, Ohio area. Never did I feel that way. Nor did I ever have a quality problem. Not saying that doesn't happen but I never experienced that.

I can tell you for certain that this is NOT the case in Lancaster County, PA. I would consider them more honest than the population at large. Sure, there are some cheats among them, but largely they do honest work for honest pay. Doesn't matter if you are in their church or not.

The Amish from Washington, In. did our cabinets about 7 yrs. ago and they were good to deal with and honest as the day is long. The Mennonites that I have had dealings with in this area have been the same way. Last year, I had the Mennonite that did my shed, give me an estimate to redo part of my deck. They were to use some of the old material, but when the job was done, the material cost was $400.00 above what was estimated because most of the old deck was unusable. When the job was finished, he explained the difference in the bill and the estimate. He then said that he had given me a price before he started work and I could just pay the original estimate. I paid the full amount of the bill because I could see that he was honest and it was an honest mistake.

Same experience here. My wife had a shop in an Amish Market in Northern Virginia for several years and became quite familiar with several Amish families from Lancaster County, PA. They even welcomed her to their home on one occasion (a rare compliment to the "English"). We found them to be honest and hard working and not without individual personalities. My wife and I are honored to count some of these wonderful people among our friends.

Used to work in a part of MD with a lot of Amish. BF had a small table and two chairs made for use in his eat in kitchen and it was beautiful but not cheap by any means. I dont' think he got taken and the guys seemed honest. With no phones we couldn't reach them but they could reach us and leave a message when it was ready for pickup. Along the back roads where their farmhouses were located every so many miles you'd see a (pay) phone booth in a field out near the road. It wasn't inside or part of anyone's home so we figured they justified it as necesssary for doing business and earning a living. Haven't been back in a long time so wonder if they are still there since most phone booths/pay phones have been removed over the past years.

We have many Amish workers in our area. All that I have met have been very honest and good people. However just because they are Amish doesn't mean they are a great carpenter or cabinet maker. They are no different than us English carpenters. There are some good ones and some who are not so good. You should get references and go look at some of there jobs that they have done. The same goes for us English carpenters. Check them out first.

I live in central Pa. and that's not been my experience with them at all.
