Highest lift on 3 pt hitch

LD1 - can you explain your tip a little more - I think this is what happened to me with my blade but I am not sure - I put my new blade to good use and used top link to angle what i think is the A frame up to make the blade "scrape better" but what it appears I did was also scrape the heck out of my paved driveway :mad:- especially on what appears to be where one edge of my blade was hitting the pavement when I had the blade angled. I have been thinking about this all day (my wife has not seen this yet :eek:and unless I figure this out I will be facing another year with a shovel) and I think you are hitting on what happened - the blade would in effect "dig in" at one end when angled because I did not keep the A frame level but tilted up quite a bit. Does that make sense?

Thank You Dana

In order to avoid this issue, I replaced the non-adjusting vertical lift rod on 3-point hitch with a short length of chain. This allows the implement to "float" rather than forcing one end of blade down. Made a world of difference for me.

That is a great solution to the backblade "digging-in" problem. A pic would help see what you are referring to and help understand how you added the chain.

Wow I never thought of that. I'll thik I'll have to give that a try.

Allthough there are times when I do want one side to dig more, but It wouldn't be hard to swap back.

I can't do a photo anytime soon, but can offer a bit more description. Simply put, there are two mostly vertical arms that actually do the lifting - on most tractors, one had an adjustment capability(used to level an implement) and the other doesn't. I replaced the one that doesn't adjust with a length of 3/8 chain - with a shackle at both the top and bottom for connecting to the other 3-point components. Takes four minutes to replace with the standard rigid arm.
Cheers!

You may also want to consider the draft load when deciding on which hole to use.

Here's the info from the 3520 manual:

OMLVU17926_J7

Click on the Using 3 Point Hitch link and scroll to the Positioning Center Link text and photos.

For light and medium draft loads: Install center link (A) in bottom hole (B) of mounting bracket. Example of light and medium draft load implements would include a landscape rake.
For medium and heavy draft loads: Install center link in middle hole (C) of mounting bracket. Example of medium and heavy draft load implements would include a tiller or box blade.
For very heavy draft loads: Install center link in top hole (D) of mounting bracket. Example of very heavy draft load implements would include a plow or ripper.

Thanks! Great! I'll save it for future reference.
