What is the Best Radiator Flush?

I have a 1992 model Kubota M4030su. I need to flush the radiator. Can someone with experience tell me what the best radiator flush would be to remove rust and other gunk? Also, do I need to back flush the radiator? Thanks!! Belah

I certainly dont know what the best would be but I do know that if you drain it then fill with a 1/4 cup of cascde dish washer detergent and clean water and run for a while with the cap off it will bring out an unbelievable amount of gunk and crap when drained, fill again with plain water, and run. Drain again and add your anti freeze mix.

When I buy a used vehicle I will do it or when I think it should be done, which is not often. But it is easy. The stuff is right under the sink. And it does get out a lot of crap. Works in the dish washer with all kinds of metal utensils and pots. I do make sure I rinse it good.

Reading the service manual of my Kubota, which should be the same for you:

1. Cooling system should be cleaned on the following occasions:

-Every one year after service (should not have to if your using extended life coolant)

-When adding a significant amount

Cleaning:

-Kubota scale inhibitor or equivalent.
-follow instructions on bottle

That was an interesting and complex post. I wonder how I have gotten away with my totally lackadaisical cooling system maintainance all these years
I better add: Use Cascade to flush your radiator at your own risk. I should know better than to suggest the use of backyard mechanic methods.

For what its worth any water cooled engine will benefit from a radiator cooling liquid filter. and they work very well trapping a lot of junk.

At my truck parts store , I sell Permatex #80030 h.d. radiator cleaner . I also sell Cascade to the local Caterpillar dealer , they use it when a oil cooler leaks into a radiator .
