That's interesting. My 24' enclosed car trailer is 101" wide on the box and maybe 105" at the fenders. It's identical to the dozens upon dozens one would see in the paddock at a track on a given weekend.
States are funny when it comes to roadway rules and regulations. I wouldn't have given it a second thought on pulling through IL, but now I know.
I had heard that. I drove the neighbors C60 yesterday hauling 3 loads for him. It has the plate on the back still...

Well, its the law but are they going to stop you? I just drove back from St Louis, MO last Thursday and past 2 different diesel trucks pulling two trailers (double pull), on I70. Its not legal there but I saw two. One I followed for better than 50 miles, it was a F-350 pulling a 5th wheel pulling a 8x10 enclosed trailer. We pass 3 cops clocking speeders without a flinch. The other was Dodge pulling a double stack of 4 each 16' bumper pull landscape trailers, 8 in total.
I am not saying to go out and brake the law but I pulled my 10' wide boat in my avatar for well over 25,000 miles in 12 or more states without a single issue. Keep the rig safe, in good shape and maintenance, and do not give them a reason to pull you over and you get by with a lot.
By the way, here is a copy of the law for your area for your reference.

Dang! Speed limit 55 mph?! Think they'd negotiate?![]()
Yeah, I was under the impression that 8'6" was the "standard."
I don't pull bad equipment. Too much $$ on the line. Too many lives at stake.
