The wireless part is relatively cheap - less than $30 using the atv wireless winch controllers I mentioned earlier. The expensive part is the $130 solenoid selector valve required. So it would cost $160 plus hoses and fittings.

Bob,

Does the winch specifically say direct drive, or is there a planetary gear set inside the drum?

One other recommendation would be to install a roller fairlead on the winch to prevent the cable from rubbing across the side of the drum. If not used, you would have to pull almost straight on.

Roller Fairlead The fairlead guides the steel cable during the winching process and prevents the cable from getting snagged in moving winch parts. An aluminum fairlead is recommended for use with synthetic cable.

The last time I looked at a PT winch, it was nothing more than a winch drum attached directly to the shaft of a hydraulic motor. IIRC, the motor displacement was around 14-18 cu. in./rev.

I think power out will be the only option.

Just looking at it, that would be my guess.

I talked to Terry at Power Trac today about running the winch off of the main PTO. He says OK, but it will run fast. This way I could add a remote switch on a cord and be able to observe and control from a distance.

I have been working on eliminate the angle irons by making a plate. I will be uploading pictures soon.

Bob, do you know the cu in of that winch motor?

About how many rpm does the drum turn.

How fast can you reel in the winch from 100 ft.

Gravy says it's 14 - 18 cu-in/rev. I don't know the speed, but it's pretty fast.

You might be able to put a flow control valve on it to slow the flow down and therefore slow the feed rate down if it is too fast, but it would heat the oil up more, but you could open it up and close it down as needed.

What do you all mean fast. It depends on the amount of lever action that you give the hyd valve. Slow to fast.

If you knew the cu in of the motor, you can figure out the rpm, with whatever flow.

For example, 8 GPM, 15 cu in , rpm will be 123, and with 20 cu in, rpm will be 92
