Red select is prime red clay dirt. It is the best pad material in this area chosen for its compactability and stability.....its almost like concrete when compacted.

That is good fill that packs well, have used it in the past and liked it because it grades and firms up well.

How large of an area are you going to cover with the sprinkler system? How long are the runs from the water source?

I guesstimate at around 3/4 acre under sprinkler. The area is roughly square with the water source just off of center and no more than 190 ft of mainline run. The home is being supplied with a 3/4" valve & line with 155psi pressure.

I am in the plumbing business, and would not supply a house with over 85 psi as this is the upper design limits for most home plumbing faucets.

Your sprinkler heads will not handle that much pressure either, I use Hunter PGP pop ups and these are limited to a max of 100 psi. Most of the similar popup gear sprinklers work best at about 60 psi. If your water source is in the middle of this lot I would run 1" pvc pipe for the lines with the last head having 3/4" run.

Thanks Steve for your input. I misspoke.... the pressure was 155psig before the plumbing contractor installed a pressure regulator and expansion tank. I believe since we are at the bottom of a fairly large hill and being supplied by a co-op that has a pump station within a mile from our home, our pressure was abnormally high. Some reason this figure (155) stuck in my head.... I believe it is around 85 now, but will confirm tomorrow after I put a gauge on the line. I need to get this reading anyways to figure spacing on my heads. Thanks again!

What size meter do you have and what size yard line? This is important as it will make a big difference in system layout.
