This will prove interesting.
I still think one more act of funny business but not shure of the form.
Will he show up with check and no cash?
Maybe try to sign any paperwork "under protest" or just refuse?
"Forgot" his cash and wants to charge it?
Slip and fall?

...or does he just head into the sunset, tail twix legs?

I put another beer in the fridge in anticipation of a proper outcome.

Yes, this should be interesting. I read the first thread, and can't believe this saga is still going. Regardless of the machine owner's actions; if I was shopping, MF would gain a few points on my list. (I'm WAY too far from Texas to patronise the dealer)

:2cents:I'll bet he still balks and threatens legal action... but eventually ponies up and pays the bill.

Yes, almost all warranty is based on the calendar, not the hours. But in regards to resale value, hours has a lot of impact on what a seller asks/gets for the unit. I don't think anyone would disagree that the same model tractor with high hours would not sell for the same price as one with low hours.

Many times, I have seen hour meters disabled to keep them from running up too high. This has included Tach cables being "loose". I was inspecting one vehicle where the spedometer wasn't working and was told it "just happened". On closer inspection, I found that the assembly had been reinstalled wrong, and based on dirt and grime- it had been done very recently. I then questioned the validity of the "low miles"

As for most cable assemblies, the adjustments are there, because fine adjustments may be needed. Thereby, it could be over tightened or loossened to the point it's intended purpose is not achieved.

I wish you had told me that 8 years ago when I was shopping :D.
It would have made me a much more wary buyer. I love my tractor, but based on many things such as clutch problems and oil tests, I suspect it has many more hours than shows on the clock.

I now mine has way more hours on it than the meter since the tach was dead when I got the tractor, but I still love it and could sell it tomorrow for more than I have into it if I really had to.

i wish I could say that. Mine's been good to me but knowing what I know now I could have done a lot better.

All I can honestly say is that I got really lucky and found an exceptional deal. I've had to put some work into it, but it wasn't anything I wasn't capable of doing myself. Both the hydraulic steering and 3ph needed to be rebuilt. The 3pt ended up just needing new valves and seats and the steering needed a new valve and seals. Most of the issue in the steering actually ended up being a loose bolt, but it took me a while to find it. Beyond that it's just been fluid/filter changes and some cosmetics. The tach didn't work as I said earlier and I had it repaired just for my own satisfaction. Wasn't really needed for functionality. I found a shop on the east coast which fully repaired and warrentied it for $175 (and they paid the shipping both ways). Replacement was over $1K. For me, it was a good deal.

I've seen my tractor listed for sale around the country in the $14K neighborhood. I paid $7,500 and it included the duels you see in my avitar as well as 3 implements. Like I said, I just got lucky.

Just thought I would put this up. The brakes have never been under water since I cleaned and checked them about 3 years ago. Guess metal can rust to a great degree from just condensation and heat. This time, I'm going to leave out the drain plug in the bottom of the housing.

Maybe his tractor wasn't under water:confused:

It does prove that the deals really are out there if you're willing to wait and watch. I looked for over a year before I found what I needed in a tractor at a price I could afford.

I agree. Sealing a housing like that just invites that kind of problem.

:laughing: so true. I have a friend with 4x4 and he said the only time his is in 4x4 is when its in 2x4 and it starts spinning then he puts in 4x4 just to back out.

EXACTLY.. Thats what I use the 4x4 on my tractor, atv's, and pickup for... Well, UNLESS I think I can make it thru on my ATV.
But always run in 2wd until something goes wrong!!!.

Sounds like you ahve been more than fair with him..(your complaining customer) I would deliver his tractor back to him and hope he never darkens your doorstep again.
If he calls waning a quote for a new tractor, Aim HIGH... REALLY high. Like, JD MSRP +25%... IF he buys, that will help cover future costs!!!!
