I had a though about pushing snow and freezing while I was on my T1600. I'm an old retired machinist and farmer with a shop still that I make all kinds of "tinker" stuff in. I'm sitting here thinking about another 6-8 inch snow coming this Tuesday and Weds and shivering. What popped into this old head was something I wanted to throw out here. The Diesel uses the puller type fan to pull air from the knee area of the driver through the radiator. Has anybody tried or thought of reversing the fan to make it a pusher fan to push air from the engine compartment thru the radiator out onto the driver when it's freezing. I know some will say it might overheat, but I say, at 32 degrees, with a non airtight compartment, it's still going to draw cool or for the most part ambient air temp ( freezing cold air ) across the block into the radiator. I might have to get a spare fan and mill it down if it needs clearance. I might even go with two small electric radiator fans one mounted on each side. A push me, pull you, setup with individual switches to run which ever was needed. With the temp gauge working I could see if the pusher wasn't cooling enough and switch off and switch to puller. Yep I know it's a funny idea, but warm legs ain't. I have a old add on heater box I've thought about putting on the tractor, where you add a "y" to the inlet and outlet sides of the radiator. Has a small heater core and a 12v 10amp switched blower. I'm just tired of being cold. Whatchathink? Rick. throw some other ideas at me.

That's an idea that's been in use for along time. Some equipment have fans that are reversible for different weather.

Go for it:thumbsup:

For this to work, you are going to have to find a fan with the blades pitched the other direction. Simply reversing the fan will not work.
One thought would be to install an electric fan. By reversing the polarity to the fan, the air could be directed either direction.

Reversing the fan is understood as changing the angle of the blades for many of us.:D

Your best bet (and simplest install) will be the aux heater... BUT don't y the radiator hoses.
Instead at the water pump by pass hose... Remove the short by pass hose and place the heater core in series in that loop ... You will have full heat always going through the heater core... and any additional heat that is needed to be dissipated will take the normal route through the thermostat and into the radiator...
This works great and I have done it on gas and diesel engines... KennyV

I like the electric fan idea. I think one larger one would be enough to try at first.

Maybe if the fan was blowing towards the driver that it might also blow the exhaust at the driver. Just a thought.

You have a good idea for a source of heat, but you will need an enclosure to trap the heat around you. I remember the canvas "Heat Housers" we had on our old Fords and Farmalls. They made a big difference on those cold winter days many years ago. On the other hand, it might be a lot easier just to invest in a set of insulated bibs and a good jacket. That works for me here in Michigan nowadays for the twenty minutes or so it takes me to plow my drive. Good luck.

Kubota makes such a fan, the part number is 15971-74110 at least thats what it is for a BX 2350 just don't tell them what you want it for or you'll get the dissertation about toxic gases and all that.

Thanks David I'll get one.
