The main consideration should be some sort of trip mechanism.
Hitting a solid object such as a curb or rock could make your loader arms look like pretzels.
I saw what a curb could do to a bucket arm, not pretty.
And do not think you will remember where all your rocks, curbs etc REALLY are when you have 2 or 3 ft of snow coverage?

Sorry for being new and not knowing this but what is a trip mechanism and what does it do and how does it work?

A trip mechanism allows the blade to "give", normally it will allows the top edge to flop forward when the bottom edge catches or hits something. This will make the blade ride up over whatever it is.

Normally, this is done with a hinge on the lower half of the blade, then springs to hold the blade up. The strength of the springs determine how much force this takes.

If you look at this thread, you can see that the push frame attaches at the bottom of the blade. It is hinged there. Then the springs go from the frame to the top of the blade.

I have to give you credit for taking on such a project, but man that's a lot of work!

Just find a used snow blade, around here they are a dime a dozen, definetly way cheaper than a decent used 3 pt rear blade. I got my 7.5 ft western for a favor. A guy the other day on Craigslist had 5 of them starting at $150.

Using your loaders controls for the 4 way plow is a great way of doing it. That's how mine is set up.

I have been watching craigslist for months. Nothing ever comes up here or Pittsburgh.

Besides, I love a project.

.....Take the rear blade, cut the 3ph assembly off of it. Then use the 3PH steel to fab a mount for it to the front of the tractor.

Remove the loader, mount this up, use the loader valves to control lift and angle.

Only thing I have to work out is a trip of some sort.

That was basically my plan, until I happened across a used, cheap snow blade along the road one day. Mine was going to be a fixed-angle blade. However, I"m very glad it isn't.

1 thing to consider when building it. If what you are plowing is anything like what I plow, it isn't always on the same exact plane as the tractor. Be sure that the blade has some slop to allow it to follow the contor of the plowing surface. Think left side up, right side down.

Well, got her all done and she is deffinately heavy on the front had to use a lot of rear ballast but it worked pretty good.

Now *THAT's* the ticket!!!:thumbsup::thumbsup: I really love the bottom connections... they don't get in the way that much. Can you post photos of it when nothing is connected to top and bottom??? ...and do you mind me copying this design?:D

On a side note, do you push with this or pull with it? (I would limit it to pulling only since you don't have "trip springs" for pushing). Heavy should not be a problem for snow... as long as you can pick it up ;)

I will take some pics and post them later this evening. The bottom connections don't get in the way too much and still allow me to use the bucket for doing other things. I can also use the joints I welded on for chains and stuff. Go ahead and copy, that's why I posted pics :) I push and pull, I set it so it's at a certain angle and put the loader in float and it works perfectly and will ride up any ledge it encounters while pushing.

How much trouble do you have with it wanting to push the front of the tractor around?

Actually I was surprised that there was very little pushing the front of the tractor around. I always have it in 4WD when I have the FEL on so that helped I'm sure. Besides being light on the rear which was fixed with adding ballast and being longer in the front it felt like I was just using the FEL. I will try to get some action shots tomorrow when I have light out, it is quite amazing cause you think it won't work that well and find out it works better than expected.
