The root of the whole issue is that many of us WANT to do right, but none of the enforcement agencies understand the laws well enough to explain them IN WRITING. Of course, that doesn't matter to write a ticket. And, as long as they don't commit to any particular way being correct, they can just write tickets t will.

How complicated would it be to offer some simple diagrams on how to tie down some common wheeled loads and formulas to determine the proper chain rating?

My my quick figuring, there are only about 4 or 5 common ones. 1) Tractor 2) Tractor with loader 3) Tractor with loader and backhoe 4) Tractor with loader and implement. 5) Tractor with implement.

Of course, the same could be done for dozers, excavators and other common equipment.

Then it would be crystal clear what they want to see. A flyer could also be given with a citation for your future use.

Don't even get me started on every county, city and neighborhood having their own rules, just different enough to nail everyone that comes through there. Rules need to be based on where the vehicle is registered, not every podunk town it passes through. All they are doing is generating revenue, not enforcing or promoting safety.

If you're breaking the rules, it's not revenue enforcement. They are doing what they are paid for. As a taxpayer, why doesn't that make you happy?

when they run a dragnet and pull a whole line of vehicles off tot he side for a check.. that's reveneue enforcement.

when they pull over the guy that has the front end facing the sky and the bumper dragging the ground.. that's a safety issue.

and it bother me because i'm a taxpayer AND a voter..

I'm 100% for safety.. and I'm 100% for open disbursement of safety info so that we all know what has to be done to be legal.

a 3" book that takes a lawyer to read just so they can fine you every which way but loose? that makes me mad.

as a leo in this thread has corrobated my thoughts.. it's kinds silly to think otherwise with respect to the real reason most of theis task force enforcement happen.

sure.. it's under the umbrella of safety .. but it's goal, IMHO is money...

.

exactly. if it was about safety there would be a 4 page 'plain english' ( er.. well maybee spanish and arabic nowadays :) ) 8th grade level printed booklet that told you what you needed you do.. add a couple pages and there could be pictures. heck.. you might even get the same answer twice out of 2 differen't agencies on the phone... sadly. it ain't about that. it's about keeping the people in the dark and breaking it off in them as often as possible without letting on any more than needed what you have to do to not be in the hot seat.. otherwise that would remove potential 'customers' of the state...

The thing with the red light cameras is the pictures are sent to a private company that gets a commission for each fine that gets collected. They clarify the pictures and identify the plate number then send the info back to the DMV who sends out the fine.

It's free money to the town or state. I even think the private companies put up their own camera and connect it up to the internet. The other option would be to pay an officer to sit and watch the light, the cost of a car for him to use, and the gas for that car which would allow him to issue how many tickets an hour, 6 to 8 maybe. A camera and a person behind a computer can do maybe 20 to 30 an hour.

That's how it works in our County except they have a police officer doing the reviewing. Maybe it holds up better if someone challenges in court, or maybe the PBA has a clause in their union contract, but whatever one officer can knock out a lot more tickets.

I was picking up friends at the airport the other day and the cop working traffic and security told me they had just installed license plate cameras in the NO PARKING/NO STANDING AREAS. So now the officer doesn't rush down so quick to keep you moving but you'll be getting a ticket in the mail.

Red light cameras are a big scam, they tighten up the yellow times if the private company supplying the camera isn't making enough money.

A real way to reduce accidents is the countdown timers installed on lights in several jurisdictions. They tell you how much is left on the green In terms of reducing light running they are far more effective and don't scam people.

The U.S. does not have a standard/official language. That is part of the problem.

Millington, tenn. just added these photo lights. Shortened the yellow to 6 seconds then you get a $50.00 greeting in the mail. Time you see the yellow, you better stop, cannot clear the intersection...yeah, they are having rear-end collisions.Boost their intake of the local.. economy.
