Reusable fittings

JJ,

The way I understand it from a manufacturers standpoint is if you use "Their Hose, Fittings, Crimp equipment, crimp specs and instructions", then they will have proper representation in warranty problems and legal/court battles.......if you make their hose assy using the proper materials and so forth then you made a "Factory New Hose".......

If you deviate then it's your nickle in the courtroom......If you swap out materials between manufacturers ....well good luck to you......:(

BTW< That said, when we first started making hoses, our liability insurance spiked to our surprise............

I am with WayneCountyHose...Do not mix and try to match fittings and hoses with out EXACTLY KNOWING what you are doing!!!

Example SAE100R2AT 1/2"

Weatherhead 1/2"
H425 OD 28/32"
H245 OD 26/32"
H104 OD 27/32"

Aeroquip 1/2"
FC212 OD 0.88" (28/32=0.875")
FC510 OD 0.80" (26/32"=0.8125")
GH195 OD 0.87" (28/32=0.875")

etc etc...the list goes on, and there are small differences in Outside Diameter.
The "cheap Chinese discount hoses", might not even have an accurate number on OD....so it might be hard to find "usable reusable"...

Different outside rubber thickness and quality, requires different design and size of the threads inside the sleeve.

Many of them can be crimped with the same fittings but different crimp diameter will be needed.
A reusable fitting can not adjust to different OD's, You have to use the one manufacturer recommend.

If hose have larger diameter than the recommended for the fitting, it will compress the inside of hose a few 100's of an inch. Then you will fail to screw nipple to the bottom of the collar or sleeve, and if you do, it can cause such stress on neck of nipple so it breaks at the wise, or later when installed.

If hose have smaller diameter than recommended for the fitting, hose can start turning in the sleeve when screwing (screwing up outside rubber) in the nipple. This will always end up with the hose disconnecting from the fitting when pressurized.

I think it's important to note. of the six Weatherhead and Aeroquip hoses you listed under SAE 100R2AT, only TWO of them actually meet the specifications for SAE 100R2AT.

I'll break them down using the Weather and Aeroquip catalogs.

Weatherhead H425 = SAE 100R2AT
Weatherhead H245 = SAE 100R16
Weatherhead H104 = SAE 100R1AT

Aeroquip FC212 = SAE 100R2AT
Aeroquip FC510 = AQP/Hi-Pac wire braid, exceeds SAE 100R2 performance*
Aeroquip GH195 = AQP.Hi-Impulse double wire braid exceeds SAE100R2*

Our SAE 100R2AT Reusable Fittings can be used with SAE H425 and Aeroquip FC212, but they should NOT be used with any of the other hoses mentioned here.

* Aeroquip FC510 and GH195 are special application hoses. Their maximum operating pressures exceed SAE 100R2, but they feature proprietary materials and designs, so they do not meet all SAE 100R2 specifications.

Thanks Ken for your reply! I appreciate you expertise presence.

You are right about some of them, the Weaterheads...the Aeroquips actually says SAE100R2AT on all of them....Of course some of the hoses are NOT designed for reusable fittings, even if the have "within in margin" OK outside diameter...
My point is that a hose can look like a good hose for a reusable fitting, but might not be designed for it...And thats why you have to know exactly what you are doing!! From there we can take "calculated risks" if we so prefer.

This 460 page EATON Weatherhead Hose Assembly Master Catalog show all the secrets about their hoses, fittings, and crimping. Their reusable fittings are named "Field Attachable"

I'll break them down using the Weather and Aeroquip catalogs.

Weatherhead H425 = SAE 100R2AT
That one was good!!
Weatherhead H245 = SAE 100R16
My bad!! Two wire though
Weatherhead H104 = SAE 100R1AT
My bad!!

Aeroquip FC212 = SAE 100R2AT
That one was good!!

Aeroquip FC510 = AQP/Hi-Pac wire braid, exceeds SAE 100R2 performance*
I got this info on this one says 100R2AT....reusable N/A though...

Aeroquip GH195 = AQP.Hi-Impulse double wire braid exceeds SAE100R2*
I got this info on this one says 100R2AT....

Our SAE 100R2AT Reusable Fittings can be used with SAE H425 and Aeroquip FC212, but they should NOT be used with any of the other hoses mentioned here.

Hope you did not misunderstand me! I never said it was OK to use reusable fittings on any of them. I just pointed out that they have "about" the same OD, but still need manufacturers recommended fittings.
