That is what it looks like here now, First time in my life that I had to or remember seeing someone clean the snow off the roofs.
Do you have a lot of roofs in your area that cave in or is it the norm to shovel the driveway and the roof? How much snow can a roof hold.

A guy I work with was telling me that he was up on his roof, shoveling off the snow. After getting himself completely worn out, he decided to take 10 and enjoy the view from up high. He was shocked to see 4 or 5 of his neighbors, also up on their roofs. He said it was like a neighborhood of billygoats. BTW, this roof work is an orthopedic surgeon's business windfall, so be careful up there!

our manufactured truss style roofs are designed to hold a 40 pound snow load. i havnt seen any newer houses collapse up here where i live, however we have lost alot of Quonset hut style barns (not sure why) and surprisingly a lot of steel framed larger barns. you would think the steel framed barns would hold up the best. 2 years ago was the 1st time in 12 years that we had to have someone shovel the house roof. i had over 4' - 5' of dense snow on the roofs, and was starting to get worried. I found that even my metal roofed buildings weren't shedding snow, and i could see some signs of buckling in the metal side trim. I put two (2) 185,000 btu torpedo heaters in each building and this heated them up enuf to shed the barn, carriage barn and my shop. the pictures above show the results. ive never seen so much snow. it took me 2 days with FEL and blower to move it all. and even then, we were beginning to run out of places to put it. our main roads were down from 26' wide to single lanes with 8' side walls of snow. All the high school kids were out earning $$ shoveling roofs. thats why i like this winter :laughing: :licking: :thumbsup:

I know I’m stating the obvious, but I hope everyone is careful trying to remove snow from the roof. Fella out the road died last year doing that. Slipped and fell off. Make sure it’s necessary, and a harness would be a darn good idea. Heck, a rope around the waist would be better than nothing, assuming you have someone else around to see you if you’re hanging there.

But you must understand; if we get this snow Thursday, it would be 3 years in a row. That would break an all time record!!

How deep is a well?

I have what most would consider a challenging driveway; 1/4 mile gravel and steep, like 15% or more, in both directions. It takes me about 1 hour to do the whole thing with a BX23 & 60" snowblower, including cleaning off the tractor before putting it back in the garage. Boy, that blower works really well!

FEL has worked for me removing this snow/ice/sleet? whatever it is.
can't make it to the original ground surface but am able to move it quite nicely. Only prob...... flat front R4 tire this morning. Tire Center guy called and said he put a tube in it for me. said the tire was weather checked pretty bad and was loosing air. Should be good to go tonight...... Boys are liking the snow ramps I am building for their quad

SE Iowa got hit with 16" of fresh snow and 40 mph winds to deposit it in all the wrong places Tues/Wed. I spent 2.5 hrs in the L5740 yesterday moving the drifts for mom. Dang, it's hot in there! Once I finally got home, I got another 2+ hrs in on the BX1860. next time, I'm taking the L the 4 miles to my house! By the time I was done on the BX, my toes were frozen.
