I was given a 12' pull type disc harrow. Along with it was what was described to me to be the drag that went behind the harrow. The person who gave it to me really knew nothing about it. They bought some property and it was on it. I went to pick up the drag today and was given a 3pt hitch frame that attaches to the drag.

Looking at it, they were obviously mistaken initially. It is definitely not a drag and has nothing to do with the harrow I originally picked up. The three point hitch frame that does go with it has a tag on it. It's a Massey Ferguson Tag. It has model number 221 and a serial number on it.

The frame that apparently goes with it, and I don't know if it originally was hooked to that frame, is about 14' long and two feet wide. It's made of angle iron and the bottom of each horizontal long angle is full of holes to mount something, but nothing is there. It almost looks like a field cultivator frame. I'm really not sure what it is.

Is there any way to look up the serial number and find out what it originally was? Anyone know what a Massey Ferguson model 221 was?

Thanks.

If you could post a pic, I bet someone here could ID it for you? Ken Sweet

I will. Its pouring down rain right now. I'll try to get one up tomorrow.

I was hoping there was a way to run the serial number and find out like a car.

It almost has to be a four row cultivator frame. To cover four rows on 36" centers requires 12', and the extra 2' gives room for the outside plow shanks. I'll bet the holes are 1" on center and will accept a 7/16" bolt (but not a 1/2").

If I recall (it has been a long time) the TPH frame bolted to brackets that attached to the vertical arms of the angle iron.

That sounds like it. I haven't measured the holes, but they do look to be about 1/2" or smaller and on about inch centers. The 3pt hitch does bolt onto brackets that are attached to the vertical of the angle iron.

I'll try to post a pic tomorrow.

I think I found it. It looks a lot like the picture below on a parts manual for sale on ebay. Someone has welded some other angle on top and a piece of pipe that I assume is to add weight, but that's the basic frame. All I have is the frame and the 3pt hitch, no shanks.

Now what to do with it?

That picture is a 2 row cultivator. Used for cultivating row crops. I have used C shanks to fit, if you ever need to make a lay off plow or cultivator with the frame. Ken Sweet
