Very interesting day today. The vet came by and castrated Oscar. This was a first for me, and I was shocked at the size of those guys!!!! Probably one and a half golf balls in size for each one. He's six months old and she said that they were bigger then she expected, but so is he.

To sedate him, she needed an idea of what he weighs. The other day, I tried picking him up and reading the scale, but couldn't see it while holding him. During the process, we broke scale.

This morning I measured around his chest and came up with 37.5 inches. When I put that into the formula, I came up with a weight of 175 pounds. The Vet felt that was much closer then my guess of 100 pounds. I'm truly shocked that he's that big at such a young age!!!!!

She said that the younger he is when he's cut, the bigger he will get. Waiting this long will affect how much bigger he gets, but she still feels that 700 pounds is possible.

She also pulled his tusks, but said they were baby teeth and that he'll still grow his regular tusks as he matures. He's a 6 month old, 175 pound baby pig.

He's up and about. His back side isn't too pretty with all the iodine solution that she used. He has a few stitches that will desolve and he's acting like he's kind of sick. He's able to walk around and seems to be favoring sunny spots to sleep. I'm keeping an eye on him, and think he's going to be fine.

I wonder how hard it would be to do that.:laughing: The first hog I showed weighed 300 pounds exactly the day he was entered. I was a pretty small 10 year old at the time, and I had lots of envious competition because I rode him all over the fairgrounds. I just carried a yardstick and I could put it right in front of him when I wanted him to stop, and just touching either cheek with the yardstick would cause him to turn the other direction. But the guy I was envious of was a guy who had a team, a matched pair of big billy goats, in harness that pulled him on a little wagon all over the fairgrounds.:laughing:

it took 266 post and you came up with it ... when Eddie and Oscar hit it big ... we will all remember when Eddie used to post ... talk about a chick magnet !! "Hey baby how about a moonlite carriage ride thru the park" ... a little wine ... a little time and some ham for breakfast !!!

Yep ... and it will catch on and pigs and carts will be the future. "I met your grandmother on a moon lite hog ride" ..
