goose neck trailers

I have a forklift that weighs 18,000 lbs and want to buy a goose neck trailer so that I can move it with my F350.
The trailer seems more than capable but is the truck and will it be legal.

Well, if the load weighs 18,000# and estimate the trailer at 7,000#, that's probably around 5,000#-6,000# pin weight. Way too much for that truck, not safe.

We haul that kind of weight and more all the time with srw one ton trucks. The rig will handle it, but legal is the issue. The gcvwr for your truck is nowhere near where you are at. That load would gross you over 30k.

Let's be conservative.

Load- 18,000
Trailer- 7,000
Total towed load- 25,000

Weight of truck- 6,500

Combined weight- 31,500

He is over his GCWVR no matter what. By thousands of pounds.

Trailer rating doesn't much matter.

Even if he were able to load the forklift waaaay at the back of the trailer, he will be over on his rear axle as well.

Fork lifts are kind of spooky going up a bever tail. The first time I hauled one I had one of the steer tires fall through a weak floor board. A dual tandem with 10K axles will do the job.

If he puts it far enough to the back his back axle will be off the ground.

I'm not sure about all the rules and regs, but best I can understand the amount of weight needed to be placed on your GN ball to safely tow will throw u over your truck's gvwr (truck weight plus weight on pin), therefore over the legal limit. One of my trailers is a load king GN with 15k axles which I pull with my 3/4 ton truck...looks funny but I dont put much weight on it! good luck.
