goose neck trailers

All those who say it can't be done haven't tried it or anything close and are just speculating. You'd be suprised what these trucks can actually pull. As far as lifting the rear of the truck when loading, of course it will if you don't have ramps that support the weight in the rear or blocks. The only safety issue I have is braking power, but the F-550 will handle it fine, 350 not so much. You need a cdl regardless of weight pulling a trailer and anything over 26k regardless of configuration. Check the GCVWR of the F-550 and the actual weight of the truck rigged out with everything you will have. From there you can do the math.

I once used a 29' dovetail with 10k axles to haul a small, but 30k, excavator down FM roads with a 3/4 ton truck. Pulled it ok, but stopped like a train.

Could he move it? Sure - but his original post was could he do it legally and was an F350 built for this task. The answer to both is no.

His GCWR is going to be close to 32,000 lbs or slightly more. Even a new 2011 F350 DRW with 5th wheel comes in at about 29,000 GCWR with a max trailer weight of 21,000 depending on configurations.

Can you show where it says being over GCWR is illegal?

I have asked this many times but nobody can seem to come up with anything that says it is illegal.

I asked the loacal CVI what my limits were for my F350 and tandem axle gooseneck and they told me my licensed weight and bridge formula.

Don't tow your 5th into British Columbia if you are over the factory GCVW by more than 10% unless you want to be stuck on the side of the road with a big ticket. The IDIOTS here are using it for a source of revenue.

Nothing a couple of casters at the back of the trailer won't fix.

Reminds me of folks with popup campers that don't put the rear stabilizers down and hop in the rear bunk. Instant wheelie!

Before I had legs on my trailer, my N could pick the back of the truck up if conditions were right. I HATE loading/unloading that thing.

I was pointing out that he wouldn't have to be over RGAWR.

If you are commercial, and it would be hard to prove this is farm, and pulling a trailer you need a cdl. They will make you pull over and wait for a cdl driver. Experience

thanks, I have a CDL, and am not worried about stopping it because the trailer's brakes are designed to do that. As far as loading it, the ramps of the trailer are designed to support loading similar to my skidsteer trailer. I just have to figure out if the F550 will handle the load legally because CT DMV are a pain in the neck. Dealer was know help but I'll keep trying.

I have a forklift that weighs 18,000 lbs and want to buy a goose neck trailer so that I can move it with my F350.
The trailer seems more than capable but is the truck and will it be legal.

For openers, your F350 has ~ 20,000 to 21,000 lb gross combined weight rating(GCWR) most likely. That means the weight of truck + trailer + the load cannot exceed the GCWR. if your forklift weighs in at 18K lbs I don't see how you can meet that GCWR with your F350.
Then there are limits on axle capaity and towed weight. You need a bigger rig to pull that monster around.
Having said that, you can probably move the thing with an F-350 but not safely or without doing some damage long term from using it over the allowable design limits. Then there is the legallity of using it for the that purpose on public roads.

Its not in most places, as long as you pay the money to register the vehicle for the weight it will be operated at. There are max wheel loadings in some jurisdictions to prevent breakup of roads.
