Do you keep the engine brake on all the time? I do, figured that may hurt MPG's a little but help with brake life.

I've got way low miles compared to you, any other issues like EGR valve or DPF etc.

JB.

Not always but probably more on than off. I use tow mode without a trailer on questionable traction roadways to keep from using the brakes. Racked up quite a few running the roads between home and Columbus Ohio.

Zero issues so far. Oh wait, I bought tires too :)

Nice grill guard, but I'm sorry that truck is just plain U-G-L-Y!
I guess to each his own but I think it looks bad arse.

I have no problem with it's looks, better than that plain jane Dodge 1500 IMO.

The problem is we don't need a HD Toyota with a CAT diesel on the market, give the domestics a chance to recover from the economic problems.
I know that's protectionism, but that's exactly what we need now.
Not knocking free market, but every other country practices some form of protectionism. I've heard but don't know if it's true, that japan wont even buy/ import rice from us?

JB4210,
I am a gear guy, but that auto 6sp has a lot to be thankfull for. It locks up well and is smooth for pulling trailers.
The tow-haul mode is something. With the exhaust brake engaged it will really back you off right down to about 15mph. I just brought a 30ft pontoon boat from Az to Wa. It only shifted twice out of od to 5th through the siskyous, and coming down the braking kept it at the speed limit without pedal braking. Never did take it out of od till it downshifted. I do that so it won't want to upshift then downshift when it is pulling right at the limits of top gear until it levels out.

I believe I posted this a while back, but here is a pick of my rig. Bed has a 14T hoist. Was a 3day build with a helper.

Once again, if that number makes you think your getting the best then go for it. I guarantee that more than half of those heavy duty sales numbers are fleet vehicles purchased by companies that look for the cheapest truck and not the best. I constantly have to make reports showing our transportation coordinator that these cheap Ford's end up costing more in the long run when you add repairs and down time.
That 6.0l Powerstroke made it easy to prove.
Quick fact: oldest Ford in our fleet - 6 yrs, oldest GM - 10 yrs, oldest Dodge - 17 yrs (94 RAM 3500 diesel with 280k miles)

On topic, anyone see the new RAM HD's rear differential cover for the tow package?

Well now, I drove a '96 Dodge with the 12v 5.9 for over 10 years with great performance (except for the transmission, but I've no problem with that considering the power I had my 5.9 putting out). After more than 2 years in a 2006 F350 6.0 PSD, I'm gonna have to take issue with your laughing at that engine. For far less money it will out haul and absolutely blow the doors off my modded 5.9 Cummins. Better yet, I've done so with zero transmission issues.

You may want to look a bit more into the later 6.0 PSD engines before you try to group them all together. Per Ford, the 2006 6.0 PSD had the least warranty claims of any engine Ford had out that year. For far less than $1000 I have a truck I really like that gets better fuel economy than my 5.9 and will eat them for lunch in pulling and acceleration. To be fair, the Dodge would be my 2nd choice without question. That's why I made the comment that I'd like to see something else to compare the Ford and Dodge to in about 2016 when I'm ready to upgrade trucks again. Oh, FWIW, there is NO pickup truck engine out there that can hold a candle to the Cummins in longevity; none even remotely close. I only sold my '96 because about 10 years is all I care to keep a truck. There most certainly wasn't anything wrong, or about to go wrong, with that engine or the ATS transmission behind it. :)
