JB4210,
I am a gear guy, but that auto 6sp has a lot to be thankfull for. It locks up well and is smooth for pulling trailers.
The tow-haul mode is something. With the exhaust brake engaged it will really back you off right down to about 15mph. I just brought a 30ft pontoon boat from Az to Wa. It only shifted twice out of od to 5th through the siskyous, and coming down the braking kept it at the speed limit without pedal braking. Never did take it out of od till it downshifted. I do that so it won't want to upshift then downshift when it is pulling right at the limits of top gear until it levels out.

Yeah that tranny really makes the truck, for someone who hauled regularly, that whole package would be tough to equal. Is not equaled IMO.

To bad most of these guys will never get to experiance that combo, since chassis trucks are such a small percentage of sales. Don't know why they wont put Aisin in HD pick up?

I believe I posted this a while back, but here is a pick of my rig. Bed has a 14T hoist. Was a 3day build with a helper.

Looks great, how does it drive empty? Mine was horrible with no body at all, you would need a kidney belt to go more than a couple miles. I guess that bed is heavy enough to smooth the ride?

On topic, anyone see the new RAM HD's rear differential cover for the tow package?

Looks like a good idea for extreme/ constant duty.

JB.

Per Ford, the 2006 6.0 PSD had the least warranty claims of any engine Ford had out that year. For far less than $1000 :)

Why did they quit buying them from Navistar? Navistar even closed tha plant.

Well now, I drove a '96 Dodge with the 12v 5.9 for over 10 years with great performance (except for the transmission, but I've no problem with that considering the power I had my 5.9 putting out). After more than 2 years in a 2006 F350 6.0 PSD, I'm gonna have to take issue with your laughing at that engine. For far less money it will out haul and absolutely blow the doors off my modded 5.9 Cummins. Better yet, I've done so with zero transmission issues.
We've been over this before and I still don't get why you try to compare a 5 yr old diesel engine to a 15 yr old diesel. :confused2:
I guarantee you can build a newer Cummins or Duramax just as easily as that 6.0l. The difference is they actually made the 5.9l Cummins / 6.6l Duramax for more than a few years so there is plenty of aftermarket support and proven setups.

That ain't saying much! Ford isn't exactly known for their reliable motors. Being the best of the Ford engines is like being the smartest kid on the short bus.
I can't imagine why they would want to scrap that motor so quickly when it was so great...

That is a sharp looking cover. All the Titans have them if equipped with the Detroit Lockers. Fords also have had them for a few years now.

You have to be kidding. The Ford motors, gas and diesel, have overall been very good. Same can be said with GM and Dodge. The worst diesel of all times had to be the 6.2/6.5 GM motors. Only thing that saved GM diesel sales was Isuzu.

This whole 6.0 Ford thing got blown way out of hand. I know dozens of guys with these truck with very few issues. Way less than Dmax issues. We all know the 5.9L Cummins set the standard for diesel engines but they are not without the common issues either.

The motor is only part of the package. Drive line, chassis, brakes, body, electrical systems, ect all make up a good truck. When it comes down to it all the Ford leads the pack.

Why????????????????? Dozens and dozens of people constantly post where the 12v Cummins engine is the best built engine for a pickup. Would you like me to compare it to the first year of the Cummins 6.7? The service manager at the 4th largest Dodge dealer nearly quit over all the problems they had when that engine came out. If I compared the 6.0 PSD to that iteration of the Dodge diesel, the Dodge looks like a POS!

If that's the best you have, I suggest you get back on that monster 20 hp lawnmower with a loader, less than any lawn mower I have other than push mowers, and tool on your merry way. ;)

Five years behind the times. Same looking cover as on my 5 year old pickup.

Why did GM go bankrupt and screw the public our of billions of dollars? Has it ever crossed your mind that you don't have the slightest clue as to what goes on behind closed doors? ;)

At least Navistar had a reason to close the plant and put people out of work; they lost their biggest contract. GM just got greedy, lost market share due to shoddy workmanship, and screwed the pooch.

You may want to look a bit more into the later 6.0 PSD engines before you try to group them all together. Per Ford, the 2006 6.0 PSD had the least warranty claims of any engine Ford had out that year.

And the 6L before those model years set the world's record for the most warranty claims of any diesel engine ever built. Hurray Ford. Even grouped together they had a vast number of warrany claims in the 100's of millions causing the split of the Ford/IH marriage.
