Andy,

You've posted three really good zingers in this thread, but you haven't had any response from the JD fans.

I have two competing hypotheses.
1. The JD fans are above this sort of thing and will not respond in kind.
2. The JD fans are slow on the uptake and don't realize they are being poked.

I will not comment on which of the two I think best describes the situation.;)

Well its all in good fun! Best freind just bought a JD (3038).. Sold the Ford 1710 he had for 12 years.. So i guess its carrying over from this past weekend..

You are right those JD guys are touchy- they treated my post like a bee just buzzing around. Leave it alone and it will go away..

The Kubota guys arent like that they would have been all over it the second I posted.. So it could be a little of your #1 and #2..

As an innocent bystander, I was just hoping to see a real slug-fest. What a letdown.:(

Nope!! they are all made in Japan!! Look at your ID tags!! At least all the compact tractors are built in Japan. So much for the American workers that used to build them here!!

Easy to sort out who knows and who doesn't. :)

Or who has been there and who hasn't. :D

nope..according to my local JD dealer, unless i buy a tractor greater than 200HP....they are made in japan (Yanmar) and painted green
.......?

Another one doesn't know. :)

Apparently some jealousy afoot here. Poking at success will always happen, so not too alarmed.
Whenever that inventory pic was taken, I'd suspect one or two things...just before a model change which requires major changes to the assembly line so there is a cushion to handle the market, or a plant change to a more new and modern assembly line is taking place.

I own a very fine 5210 that was built in Augusta about 12 years ago. The inventory around that plant is nothing compared to the heap of suvs that GM has parked outside of a plant about 20 miles from me.

I am guessing Deere probably alternates model builds in sequences down the same line so they can build more models with the same tooling and floor space. That minimizes the tooling and overhead of physical plant operations. If you engineer the tooling and lines right, you can build a greater variety of products in the same facility with the same people and keep them all working.

Dog them all you want, but I applaud them for maintaining a strong US presence. Its a shame that more companies cannot or will not.

well, im only quoting what my salesman told me. i asked him specifically if the new ones (4000 series in particular) were still yanmar built and he said that they are. i would have assumed that a john deere salesman thats been in business here for 20+ years would have known. anyways, it really was a mute point, as the price of their 43HP cab tractor was soooooo far above the competitions prices, it was not in my final comparison list. i would have loved to buy an American made tractor....but seriously...they wanted nearly 15 grand more for the tractor. i couldn't do it.

Is that what heaven looks like?:D

No, heaven has every brand in quantities that you cant even imagine! I noticed that in the picture some of the Deeres have the square headlights on the 4000 series. These must be the European models that are shipped off. But that makes me wonder, if they have those here, can you purchase the extra accessories from Deere that are available in the European market? I know that you cant get the European cab tractors, but say something like the different lights on the ROPS or the road mirrors? It is great to see so much green in one place, why don't they line up all their tractors and see how long the line would be.:laughing::cool:

i would have assumed that a john deere salesman thats been in business here for 20+ years would have known.

assumed, hehe ,
know what they say!

but really, after 20 years, you would think
he'd been to enough training to know where
the product he sells is built, especially in this
economy. and, as many mention, check the
serial number plate, shows country of manufacturer.

and no, 4020 compacts are not built in japan, and
the other part of that equation is that the 4020 uses
a JD engine, unlike the 3020 that's still running yanmar.
for how long is to be determined i guess.
