i would have assumed that a john deere salesman thats been in business here for 20+ years would have known.
Did you tell him you were going to go home and pass on his information on the interweb?
Some peep could have 50 years in the business and still have no clue:laughing:

That picture is REALLY interesting. Any kind of modern manufacturing is "just in time" where your not sitting on gobs of tractors like that. Deere is paying for all that inventory, its a horribly wasteful process, They are also all sitting out in the weather, they are on tires so you can only ship a handful at a time... far less than when you skid them and send them in a container. I'm shocked, I would think Deere of all companies would be using more modern processes.

This KMA/KIE who is cranking out several magnitude more tractors than Deere does in Agusta (and actually building some, rather than just putting tires on)... notice the total lack of inventory sitting outside.

In modern manufacturing it isn't the amount of inventory that is bad it is how many turns do they do to justify it. There is little doubt Deere sells alot of tractors. Since we don't know their turns we can't judge their inventory. Just in time can turn into just late also. Some sales are lost to not delivering. Deere has problems in building enough AG tractors and combines to meet demand. No doubt it has benifited CNH and AGCO. With Just in Time (JIT) you need safety inventorty and buffer inventory. Safety is when you have something interupt your production you can still deliver on time and buffer is when you have a spilke in demand from your customers you can cover it. You adjust these levels by observing inventory levels and keeping data. I have little doubt that Deere has plenty of data to create forcast to meet demand, this ain't their first rodeo.:D Deere on their large AG have the lowest inventories in the industry. It isn't always good for their dealers because you can't sell what you don't have. Try to buy an 8000 series off the dealers lot. Tough to find a brand new one. Last year you could order in January and go see it built in Wateloo in July. Also I have seen Deere manufacturing, Agco and Toyota among others. The cleanest and one of the best plant layouts I have seen was Waterloo Iowa.
I don't know about CNH so I can't compare. I have heard their combine plant in Nebraska is really nice and I am sure Racine is state of the art. I know any CNH equipment I look at has excellent fit and finish. I just don't know there turns. From going by my local NH dealer I would guess less than Deere in my area. He has 4 new NH tractors over 150hp and 2 new combines that haven't moved from last fall. Deere dealer has no new ones.

Very interesting picture. I have been waiting since mid October for a 3720 which was delivered to the dealer last Monday, Feb. 14th. With all that inventory it sure makes me wonder why it took so long for the unit to arrive.

Can you ever say something positive or truly informative? Even with a just in time system inventory has to be held, Deere has chosen to hold it in specific geographic regions instead of forcing the dealer to hold the inventory. "Just in time " in not the panacea to all things wrong in manufacturing, JIT depends on an accurate forecast and the willingness of the Manufacturer to fore go the "impulse buys" that are so common in our society. I am in Manufacturing and work with JIT and true Kan-Ban pulls , believe me more often then not "Just In Time " turns into "while you wait".

Excellent explanation, thank you!

well, im only quoting what my salesman told me. i asked him specifically if the new ones (4000 series in particular) were still yanmar built and he said that they are. i would have assumed that a john deere salesman thats been in business here for 20+ years would have known. anyways, it really was a mute point, as the price of their 43HP cab tractor was soooooo far above the competitions prices, it was not in my final comparison list. i would have loved to buy an American made tractor....but seriously...they wanted nearly 15 grand more for the tractor. i couldn't do it.

Wow. I just dont know what to say. So many places to start! Were you pricing a 3720 cab or 4320 cab against the Kioti that you purchased? I just priced out a MY11 4320 (48hp, eHydro, tru Factory Cab) barely over 32K (almost 6K off list - over 15%) so your 45hp Kioti cab tractor was around 17K? Doesn't sound like a moot point to me, it sounds ridiculous. Just as ridiculous as a supposedly 20+ year Deere salesman saying that the 4x20 series is Yanmar built.

Usually not when it comes to Deere. Maybe he is jealous? ;)

On my little 3520 the engine and trans are Yanmar and the rest of it looks to be Deere. My guess is they get the drivetrains from Yanmar and final assembly is Georgia. I know that is where mine hailed from.

I think Waterloo makes the 7000 and 8000 series tractors. Those would range from about 120hp to 365 HP.

well, all i can tell you is i have the quote from john deere in my office. it was for the 4320 cab with some added extras, like rear remotes, rear lights, radio. and it was that much more than what i paid for mt kioti. mind you the john deere here was more than the one your quoting. jd also called me back and told me that the r4 tires would add another 800 to the bid he gave me. now im wondering if this dealership was just trying to make a load of $$$ off of me. i didnt try other JD dealerships for a price comparison.
this dealership printed me the following JD4320 + loader = 39,200 (they did not give me a 15% off list price deal), 1st rear remote = $899 2nd=$400, Rear light = $210, Radio = $466.00 = $41,175 (this is figure on my bid sheet). now add $800 for the r4 tires.
