No scientific study here, just noticed after a couple years burning service station normal diesel in an old fashioned pot-type vented stove (designed to burn diesel or kerosene)...no deposits, bottom of burner very clean.

After getting 200 gal tank of off road diesel and burning it for 5 mo. or so, noticed pretty good amount of carbon deposits in bottom of burner...

Red off road diesel here in NW va has contaminants/carbon in it?

Comments?

Is this an old carburetor unit???? If so they take #1 oil as I recall. #2 will foul them up.

In most areas of the country, the only difference between off road diesel and on road diesel is the red dye in the off road. They are the same stuff where I live.

Thats why i noted "around here" its that way, many parts of the country is not this way, your correct. Here in SC we lag in many things, this dirty fuel is just another apparently another, that and we can still buy real gas for are vehicles if you choose, you arent stuck with e10

Same here. Red dye to identify it for tax purposes is only difference. We do have winter blends to prevent gelling and I'm not sure they use a winter blend for home heating oil which is the same as off road diesel. They have changed formulations for ALL diesel over the last few years and got rid of the higher sulphur diesel. Not sure if that would affect carbon deposits or not.

For what it's worth, I recently bought some off road diesel just south of Cumberland in West VA. I asked the guy if it was the same as on road and he told me what I was buying had a higher sulpher content.

Listed as 15ppm ULSD non road diesel on delivery. Last msg about more sulphur informative.

Just relating what I've noticed...Stove is designed to burn most anything kerosene or diesel.
