My truck is an 08 Chevy 2500HD with the 6.0 gas engine and 6 speed automatic transmission , it is amazing for towing. I purchased this truck with approx 30k miles on it in the fall of 09 for under $20,000. I used to be loyal to another brand but this truck has made a BOWTIE man out of me.

Thanks...That is the kind of report I was looking for. My tractor gets loaded over the axles of the GN trailer so I am hoping it will work out. Does anyone know if the 2005 suspension is stouter than the 2001 I had with air bags? They are the same gvwr and cab setup.

I have a 2007 I tow a 12K trailer with. I have a 3500, but my utility body weighs quite a bit full of my saws & tools. My truck wieghs ~ 8,200lbs full of equipment, so I legally have ~1,700 left to give for tongue weight. My trailer fully loaded puts at least 1,700 on the rear axle.

I was going to get the Firestone Ride Rites (and still might), but I discovered I don't really need them. What I found was that the GM suspension starts lower than my old Fords, but doesn't sag as dramatically as my Ford suspensions used to. Once the trailer is hooked up, it squats as you would expect, but handles great.

I know how you feel. I was a die hard fordie, too. I couldn't be happier in my truck. Just hit 63,000 miles and haven't put anything but diesel & oil changes in mine. Even towing a trailer regularly, I'm still on my factory brakes.
On edit: I did install shocks this summer, but that was by choice, not necessity.
