Test drove new 3.5l TT Ford

I have owned many Fords and do not hate them in the least. They make a good, solid product. My concern is that in a truck application this may be a tough sell. We will just have to see how it goes for them. I suspect they will have some tougher sledding in this market than in cars for the Ecoboost style motor.

My best friend and bike riding buddy is a Ford dealer, he has driven both engines and says the ecoboost is the real deal. I have driven the 5.0 in a SuperCrew 4X4 and it was impressive, in 4wd you could smoke all 4 tires easily:D.
I believe the real life milage should be better the the projected EPA ratings, my understanding is that the current test cycle parameters are not favorable to the turbo engines.

I was at the Indy Boat Sports Travel Show yesterday. Largest of this type of show in the world. It was put on by Ford and they had tons of stuff on display and also loaned many vehicles for each booth to incorporate the products they were selling to the vehicles.

Anyway, they had a bunch of the 3.5L trucks with 3.55 gears on display. Very nice. All I heard was positive comments from the people that were looking as I was other than the price. A 4x4 3.5L 3.55 gear SuperCrew decked out nicely was $44,000.

Another thing about the 3.5EB, it has more ft lbs of torque down low than the monster 6.2 does. It's not until somewhere around 3500 rpm that the 6.2 beats it. When they started building the F-150's with the EB engines, they started using larger rear ends to handle the power. One of the employees at Detroit AP posted how he thought there was a mixup since a batch of axles looked like the HD axles they put in the Raptor. Then they found out it was for Job#2 when the EB was to begin production.

That is just about what my '08 Chevy CC/SB Duramax stickered at 3 years ago. I did not pay anywhere close to that either.

22 hwy/ 15 city for a 2 wheel drive 1/2 ton full sized truck. It's been awhile but I thought that was about what 2wds got.

My '89 Ford F150 with a 300 I-6 and a 3.08 rear end would get 24 mpg, and it only cost $9700 out the door when it was brand new. It served me over 200,000 trouble free miles with only routine maintenance before I sold it.

22 years later and they can't figure out how to equal their 1989 economy in a base truck?

Sure they could if you wanted a full-sized truck with a mid-sized cabin, a 165hp engine with horrible emissions, a tow capacity of about 5,000lbs and a payload of about 1000lbs.

Then again, Ford isn't really offering a true mid sized truck. All those sales go to Toyota and the rest to Nissan. Pity, in my book. Love my Ranger and it's 29 mpg, but I'd like to buy a really great, no... awesome mid sized, double cab truck, would like 30 plus mpg. It exists, just not in North America. So, I wait.

I worked with a guy who had a f150 with that straight 6 in it. He spun a bearing and still put 30k miles on it before selling it. One tough engine.

A "half ton" truck that only holds 1000lb.

I would love to see a 150 / 1500 with a moderately sized diesel motor. Size it to get 25 or 28 miles empty and around 20mpg with a 75% of max load. I would jump on that band wagon in a heart beat. I get 17 to 19 in my 09 Silverado and my brother gets 15 to 17 in his F150. I think that there would be a lot of trucks sold to guys like us if we could hear a little diesel and not have to drive a 250 or larger truck. I just don't need that size truck any more and would love to get the performance of the big D.
