I'm not trying to sound stupid here, just making sure...is it the grille or the brush guard you are modifying? I'm asking because I'd like to modify my brush guard to help keep limbs and sticks from getting to the grill. I was about to start a new tread when I saw yours. I'm not trying to hijack the thread but if anybody has done this could you point me to pics or links to your work?

You will get a small burst of gas at first. Does it stop, or just slow down? Do you get a weldable arc? Is that 18 PSI, or 18CFH?

OleFarmer is correct in that you will have an initial high pressure surge when it first clicks on. I assumed by your post that it was barely flowing at all after the initial blast. Do you have a flow meter type with a ball that rises as you turn up the flow or do you just have a regulator that is preset for a certain flow. I think I have seen some of those elcheapo type sold with MIG welders. That slow flow may be all that your regulator is set to flow. There should be a screw on it somewhere where you can turn up the flow a bit if it is not flowing enough. You really only need enough that you can feel it flowing when you put it too your face as they really arent designed to weld in a strong wind. About 20 CF per hours is the highest setting that you would want to put on it. Anything more and you start to get some arc blow from the gas.

I guess the best way to check it is to try it. if it welds ok, you're good to go.

I used it yesterday and it seemed fine. I'll keep using until it stops... Yes, I should have titled this brush guard instead. Fininshed welding and primed the upper part. Planning on building a box on the lower part to hold a chain or 2..etc. Making it out of 3/4"x6" flat bar. I have seen done on a JD 6330 and liked it. I bought the grapple from a TBN member, DirtyWorks back in Decemeber. Haven't used it much, yet. Mostly waiting for it to dry up and I need to finish my brush guard mods.

I like that woven wire material even better than the expanded metal. I wonder where I can find some of that? I already have some expanded metal that I could use, but I think what you have would be stronger than the stuff I have.
