What are your 2011 season project plans?

1: Finish my backhoe project.

After backhoe is finished and operating.

2: Dig trench from water meter to parents house, to replace old galvanized water line with pvc.

3: Dig another trench to lay electrical wire and conduit from my dads shed to the breaker box at the pole.

4: Dig up and replace some aging steel sewer line to my parents house.

5: Replace the roof on my dads shop.

6: Plant a garden. (probably break up the ground with the backhoe) :thumbsup:

There's probably more, but can't think of anymore right now.

Since I built my barn last year, I think 2011 will be a bit milder:

1. Continue to convert back yard into mowable turf
2. Improve front yard area (bring in grass/dirt mixture)
3. Maintain 1100' gravel driveway
4. Bring in 2-3 trucks of "washout" for barn driveway & lean-to
5. Install gutters on barn
6. Trench water line from wellhead to barn
7. Continue to clear front 4 acres of brush
8. Burn brush pile (see #7)
9. Grind stumps in utility easement (my brushhog will thank me)
10. Brainstorm for a "farm business" idea
11. Rest up from last year's to-do list

P.S. Any ideas for #10 are greatly appreciated. We have thought about raising a few goats (restrictions limit us to 9 or fewer head), bee-keeping, welding yard/garden art, etc

Back-engineer for an idea, just like Henry Ford. He figured out what he could sell and at what price and then produced something for a lower cost so he could make a profit. There are similar threads here on this.
How many goats can you sell and for how much, who will buy and why?
Who needs welding and yard art?
How big are either market? What can go wrong, because it will? So far, I vote for the welding & yard art thing.

We just moved here three years ago and it we have done a lot but there is much to do. This list does not include working our current garden. Read on.

#1. Find a couple of 10 wheeler loads of free compost for our garden. (trucking is enough without paying for the compost)
#2. Get another acre or-so incorporated into the garden.
#3. Get rainwater collection system going on our house and garage, neighbor's house and garage and possibly more. That there is many thousands of gal per inch of rain.( get some 300 -1500+ gal water tanks)
#4. Get drip irrigation in the hoophouse.
#5. Get side yard cleared and reorginized.
#6. Refloor the porch.
#7. Repair the hoophouse where someone tried to burn it. (They were not informed that a plastic hoophouse doesn't burn very dramatically:laughing ( about a 4 x 15 ft section.)
#8. Put a wider gate into the yard.
#9. Make rose trellis for neighbor.
#10. Clean up two more lots we acquired this winter from someone who didn't want them and gave them to us.
#11. Other things that haven't come to mind yet.


Sometime in the future;
#12. Insulate and re-side the house.
#13. Jack up the garage and replace the rotted and sagging posts.
#14. Repair the door on the front of the garage so it works. ( is sunk into the ground, nailed shut, and the rollers are gone.)
#15. Paint the house.( hopefully not before #12 but the city is bugging us)
#16. Replace the rest of the old windows in the house (many, many,:confused2



Seems like a kind'a daunting list but hopefully we can do most of these within the next ten years.


Thing I want to Do.
#1. Get a yard trailer for the tractor to transport compost, rocks, ect...
#2. Get more toys.
#3. Take the summer off.

I have a ton of plans, all sorts of ambition and ideas, but have learned that it always takes ten times longer to get it done then I think it will. What's funny is I remodel homes for a living and can estimate those jobs pretty good, but never can on my own stuff.

I've been remodeling my house for a year now, and want to convert some storage areas into a real nice master bedroom bathroom and closet.

I want to replace the siding of my house with Hardi Lap siding and add some rock to it.

I'm changing the color scheme of my gazebo where my hot tub is and hope to be done with that fairly soon.

I have two storage sheds that I'm in the early stages of building. I hope to have one done this year.

I want to install 3 culverts for sure, and another three would be real nice.

I have 8 more roads that I want to clear the trees for on my land. If I get half done this year, I'd be happy

I HAVE to replace the breaks on my dump truck.

I WANT to fix the washboard in the bed of my dump truck.

I'm clearning an area of land that I'm wanting to turn into a park. Saving the big trees, taking out the small stuff and then grading the land for a nice lawn. It's about five acres and where I have problems with water standing. I've got that a lot better, but still need to fine tune it and clean it all up

Grade and build up an area where I plan to put some buildings on at a much later date. It's 2 1/2 acres that is all cleared and partially graded. It needs more dirt and a lot of measuring to get it right

Fill and get grass to grow on my erosion areas.

GET MORE GRASS TO GROW!!!!!

Build my business, keep my clients happy and stay busy making money.

Find a girlfriend!!!!! LOL

I did also build a Walters building for equip storage so I can compare the two.
Are you thinking of building something?

Not really, I just would be curious to see what it looks like. I've always been a fan of Morton buildings...Well, maybe someday...

When you do get ready, the best deal is to buy a stock size that is a promotional event at a farm show.
Even better, order in the fall, let them build on their schedule and you get an extra amount off.
Buy the advertised package and make zero changes.
Well, maybe add the roof insulation to prevent condensation drips.

I can sure sympathize with wanting one. It took me 25 years of wanting before it finally happened.

I'll be sure to let you know how it works out. (Hopefully have the backhoe done soon) I really got a lot of work done to it today.

I really strengthened the mount for the backhoe, tonight. I got the boom, and boom cylinder mounted. I still need to buy 2 more cylinders, some hoses and some fittings.

I bought some square tubing for the boom and stick. The backhoe should be able to dig around 7 Feet.

I'll get some pics and post them, when my other computer with the card reader starts working again.
