Getting gravel back on my lane

OK... now that I have all the gravel back on the pad where it's supposed to be, I have all these nice piles of gravel, sticks and thatch. Anyone have a slick way of separating all the trash out of the gravel?

The pine straw rake should do it.

I can rake through a gravel driveway and it cleans all the trash up nicely.

Not to threadjack, but have you ever tried to dethatch with one of those?

How well does the pine straw rake work on leaves? I have about an acre with a nice mat of leaves I want to clean up. No grass underneath, because of the leaf layer.

The pine straw rake will dethatch to a degree but would need to be stiffer to do it right imo.

It works well with needles, small sticks and leaves, wish I had one years earlier. Notice that the last three tines on each edge are pulled forward to hold the debris in place. It will gather quite a load of needles in front of it in one pass.

Hmmmmm.... fresh out of those at the moment. Looks like it would be pretty simple to make if one could find the tines.

A landscape rake is on my list of things to get. One of these pine needle rakes looks pretty slick too, although I have very few pine needles to rake. I do to be constantly picking up sticks and small branches though.

For $300 from Everything Attachments | Skid Steer Attachments, Tractor Attachments, 3 Point Hitch Attachments, and Farm Tractor Implements. I wouldn't bother building one. I plan on getting another one to cut down to about 50" width to weave between the trees. The replacement tines are $15 doing the math it is cheaper to buy the whole thing.

I should add that the pictures are of a new customers lawn, not much grass there to start with but you can rake with the thing and not hurt a nice lawn. I have landscape rakes too but this is better for normal raking use.

Here's a paradigm breaker.

You know, I've often considered taking my drive, rolling the gravel, sand, and clay mixture flat, and then planting with a tough, low-growing weed or grass and just mowing it frequently during the summer to keep it neat. That way I wouldn't have the **** erosion problems I get every year, and the gravel would stay in place better during plowing or blowing. Anyone else deliberately try something like that?

I have a 400 foot drive that is basically grass. Thru the years, in the spring, when the ground is soft, I gather rocks up to about 2" in size and stomp them into the ground in the main tracks. Also, any rocks I pickup while digging, etc. get deposited on the drive. The drive now is pretty well self sustaining, other than taking a flat shovel to the center that gets high in spots once and awhile. Part of the problem with gravel drives, is that some people constantly churn up the rock bed and loosen it...which should be left compacted as much as possible. But repairing the pot holes in a gravel drive usually means messing with the base some. Good things and bad things about each type of drive..but the grass works for me. My drive is slooped, and the grass helps keep everything in place. If I had gravel, I would have to repair washed out sections several times a year.
