Getting gravel back on my lane

Use a power rake, you know those paddle wheel powered by a two cycle motor, just like a weed whacker. they do a great job of getting the gravel off
grassy areas etc but leave the grass.

Hmm--what about the debris (grass, leaves, sticks etc), does it get pushed back with the gravel?

I have gravel arround the house and it is constantly spilling off into the grass and I am constantly raking it back or buying more. This could be my solution or at least the excuse to buy another tool:laughing:.

Good news, Snow is melting. Bad news, 75% of my gravel is off of my 1/4 mile lane and spread 3 ft off either side of the road.

My lane is about ten feet wide then it drops off pretty quickly on each side. Does anyone have a good recovery method ?

I have a blade and a landscape rake but it may be hard to get a good even run with both sides dropping off the way they do.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

New stone might be the cheapest and easiest. I'd also get myself a snowblower. Plowing snow is hard on a gravel drive.

Next year try using the landscape rake to remove your snow. I've been doing that for four winters now - it works well, and doesn't move much gravel.

It's the price you pay for scraping down to the ground when removing snow. I always like to compact a couple inches of snow first or leave a few inches if the first snow requires a plow job. I've always hand raked any loose gravel. Each year of raking helps to improve your plowing skills. :) FYI - I use one of those metal flexible leaf rakes.

:thumbsup::thumbsup: A true statement for sure

We also use a rotary power broom when I put too much gravel on the grass. It works great. It does bring a lot of leaves and debris onto the lane though. To manage that you can:

1. Use a leaf blower to blow the light stuff back off the lane leaving the gravel behind
2. Do your boom work on a windy day. Does the same thing.

I have now made a couple of spots where I tend to plow the really badly gravel filled snow to and stockpile it. Once I have a packed base, I don't have any more gravel coming up so in the spring at least I have only two really bad gravelly spots to concentrate on.

Good luck! (Don't hand rake, you'll get tendonitis!)

too bad you don't live closer, I have one. It's a Shindaiwa Power Broom. I'll add a photo to show along our road where I did one swipe and then took a picture so people could see what it does. It's still a lot of work but beats a rake! Maybe someone would have one of those big industrial rotary brooms for the front of a tractor in your area.

You wont notice so much extra gravel on the road but you'll notice none in your ditch or side of the road basically.

I also use my shindaiwa power broom, works great!Stihl also make ones.coobie

"I try to get to mine just before the snow melts down to the green grass. "

This is a good idea, I'll try it if I can get the timing right.

I just spent a couple of hours raking gravel back onto the drive myself. I was being real careful this year to try to keep the windrows and piles on the gravel, but I guess I just couldn't see the edge of the drive very well.

Next year, I'm going to put stakes along the drive at 50 foot intervals and try to keep the snow all on the gravel area. If there's a lot of snow, it will probably be impossible to keep it all on there, but it should be better anyway.
