I finally started my pond

I don't think your compressor can put enough oil into the water to hurt your fish. The compressor would blow up it it lost that much oil. I doubt if you poured a gallon of oil in your pool if it would hurt them too bad. but don't try it.(just in case I'm wrong):thumbsup:

Does it have motor separate that has a belt driving a pulley on the compressor? I think that may be one that does have pistons and there would be some oil, more as it gets older. I doubt that if it is relatively new that there is a significant amount. You can get oil and water separators that remove the oil and water from the air (folks that paint cars need clean air, any oil or water in their compressed air would ruin the paint job).

I doubt that you need one, but if you see any oil film around the bubbles, it may be some oil in your air....

You just put them on the output of the compressor before it goes to the pond.

I can guarantee an oil-less compressor won't last long if it's cycling 24 times per-day, for a pro-longed period. A quality "real" compressor with oil will last years and years cycling 24 times per-day, and with an oil/water separator, a couple rises/drops, and then a motorguard m60 will be MUCH safer for the fish.

My father has the oiled compressor CH you do, and I know it puts out a good amount of water/oil into the lines. If your going tank->pond or just a oil/water/ trap in a matter of weeks or months I would imagine an oil slick on the pond your size.

You can spend more money to make the air even dryer/cleaner it's up to you.

Since you have such a long run the air is cooling, and the water will be MUCH easier to collect. You may only need 1 raised area near the pond to catch all oil/water before it even goes in your pond!

The traps, filters, etc, work best with cool air. You have that going for you at least

Water/Oil separator is what you want.

It will work much better the further it is from the hot compressor air.

They are so cheap you can put one at the unit, then at your pond.

I would imagine the one at your pond filling VERY FAST since water will be out of the air by then probably, and will be much easier for the trap to extract.

You can get self-draining ones too. Some are electrical, and some are pressure regulated. IE: When pressure drops below x# it opens valve and purges the water. :thumbsup:

I also highly suggest a tank-drain at bottom of tank to make sure water/oil doesn't sit in your tank and cause other problems in the future.

I got the Tractor Supply Co. air diffuser (air stone) in the pond on Saturday. Boy does it work way better than an air hose coiled up with holes in it.:thumbsup: The pond is down about 3 feet and I hope to get the shallow end cleaned out and resloped before the next hard rain. Booger got snake bit in the photo below, yet is in excellant spirits.

He is already doing better. Part of his lip this morning was swollen, like someone punched him, but that swollen lip has already gone down. I didn't take him to the vet as years ago, we had a German Shepard, about his size, that was snake bit and didn't get any doctoring. Large dogs do well against copperhead snakes and water moccassins. Besides, my Dad was a veterinary medicine major at Texas A&M:thumbsup:Gig'em Aggies when WWII started and we always self doctored our animals. If he wasn't looking and feeling better, I could have given him a pencillin shot for about $10 from the feed store. I already have syringes and needles on hand.

I reworked the shallow end's bank last October. I still want to remove the two small trees in the photo and re slope that area as well.

The forklift pallet I had sitting on the bottom, for Fathead minnow spawning, near the cinder block fish hotel was rotten, so I removed it and relocated the fish hotel to a little shallower water.

The tops of the cinder blocks are about 10 inches below full water level now.

Loved following the building of your pond. I am hoping to begin work on one this fall. I'm in the NC Mountains and I have a spring and a small creek converge at the corner of my front yard and I hope to widen it out to around 1/4 acre and put a few trout and smallmouth bass in there. Thanks for the inspiration.

Neatest duck so far to show up is a Mud Duck. He kept diving off the pier post 3 or 4 times then left.

My daughter saw some Mud Ducks on another pond and told me I need some on my pond, but I haven't found a pair to purchase.

great place to learn about keeping fish - only a few of us r "ponders" most grow fish & vegies in tanks in their backyards! we have quite a few US members.

regardless where u live or what fish u keep, there r species that do better in harder conditions (ie lower hot water) in Aquaponics in our part of the world people grow trout in cold winter water and barramundi in hot water periods - they buy in a bit bigger fish & grow out to plate size in about 6 months - quite amazing. i'm doing it a bit different, i have trout in my first pond now, but the one i'm building will be to buy trout in at about 2" fingerlings & keep in AP system over winter then release into the pond to grow out for a year or so.

i'll be interested to see how u progress to second pond now u have had such interesting experiences - wishing u very good luck - cheers Oz G
