Do your own Fluids and Filters on a BX

Hey JT!

Just completed 200 hour service on my BX-25 at 211.1 hr mark! Used your info as a guide but it was COLD! My unheated workshop was 25F after a night that reached 2.3F. Hopefully I will be ready to clean up the snow as 6-7" are expected today and 9-13" more tomorrow!

I believe I got mine before you got yours and mine has about 60 hours on it. Looks like you are getting your moneys worth out of yours. Great. I haven't had mine started in a month or two. Not doing snow scraping this year or haven't yet. Letting the sun remove it, takes a bit longer but uses less fuel.

Good hearing from you and anxious to see some more of your summer jobs/projects. Glad the pictures are of some benefit.

Explain the reason for not using SUDT in the front axle as Kubota recommends. Seems if you are looking for cold temp operation SUDT would be the way to go.

Hey Jim, Kubota "recommends" either, not just sudt.

It's an axle and to me, that means axle fluid. Precisely because of cold weather operation, the synthetic 75w-90 provides the flow desired plus the protection. It is no more expensive than dino 80w-90.

Also, my dealer does this on all of them and strongly recommended it.

I have to admit. I like the idea of gear lube in the front axle too. It is not like it is mixing with anything else. Seems like it would be a good application for something "sticky--er". When is the last time you had trouble with the rear differential in a vehicle? Was just curious. Thanks

Yooper, I doubt I'd have given it much thought except Ginop's sales folks were pretty focused about mentioning it. In fact, he strongly suggested dropping the front axle fluid at 50 hour service. It made sense to me. The synthetic 75w-90 also made sense when there it was at Family Farm and Fleet, in Gaylord, for the same price as dino.

I added some SUDT to the front axle. Would there be any problems if they originally used axle fluid?

Not likely. They just gun in sudt in everything during assembly. That's the local theory anyhow. BTW, they all come "low". Can't be helped. What the dealers should stress to the BX buyer is to check it in 5 hours, 'cause it will almost always take some. Mine took a pint or more.
