Wow! What a beautiful Texas ranch home. As usual, I'm late to the party just now finding this thread in "Today's Posts".

It always seems the last 10% of home building is the most frustrating. I love the colors inside and out. There is an old joke about being married long enough to garner "color authority". Usually for men color authority starts and ends in the garage... There is a nice home down the road past me that is trimmed in Mary Kay pink. I don't care for it. Obviously, the man there must have lost all color authority....

Mike and Bernice, that fireplace looks cozy already. Hope you 2 enjoy your new home for many years to come!

PS, I love your statement about needing a break from retirement.

"Texas ranch" is exactly what we were shooting for Kyle. Simple in design, efficient use of space and materials. We'll need to enjoy it for years in order to pay for it:p

... "slower pace of yard landscaping" ....???? ...oh that's right ....your boss isn't Bernice.

Once you get the boss to retire the accelerated pace will slow. I'm pushing 16 months on landscaping now.......with no end in sight for 2011....:D

Singing: One paver down, turn around, 9,999 pavers to go.....

lol! Sometimes I count myself as blessed to be broke. That way, I don't have to lay any pavers.

All I can say is, get the most physical work done outside done whilst its below 95 degrees.

NO NO NO, you are not getting out of this just because you are broke. You will share my pain through my thread..... when I start it: "How to inexpensively build a 10,000 paver circular driveway in less than two years".

Recipe ingredients:
1. 10,000 Acme (half price) pavers with free delivery.
2. Flat plate vibrator - Craig's list-cheap (just leaks a little oil)
3. Paver splitter- Sears (saved $75 with coupons)
4. Metal circular framing for cement curbing (welded myself)
5. Hundreds of bags of cement - cheaper by the pallet (42).
6. 3000' of rebar
7. Polymer sand (ok, I splurged here, idiot proof this way)

This is a new house lesson: Let the builder go ahead and do the cement flatwork (driveways and sidewalks)!
....but this is Mike's new house thread and I will not steal it...

FINISHED!!!!! Signed the last bank draw on thurs, waiting for the bank to tell us our closing date on the permanent loan. In the meantime they say we can start moving furniture in -- just not allowed to live in it til after closing. .....TXDON -- now that you are required to take it easy for awhile would be a good time to start that paver thread ---with pics of course.

Mike, the shutters and railing really brought it all together, looks inviting. Now you can really live up to your ranch's name!
(I'll start the paver project thread when I can make some progress.:))
